Flat mode? Can't Post

When I access the "Who's Online" button, sometimes it says I'm viewing it "flat mode" and sometimes in whatever the alternative (non-flat mode?) is. Anyone know the difference? Or what "flat mode" even means? Curious minds want to know. Thanks in advance.

You're not getting Speakeasy in 3-D?

No, the two modes are, as I recall it, flat and threaded. I have no idea what the difference is, or why you should prefer one over the other.

No 3D--not yet, anyhow. What's most curious about the flat mode/non-flat mode (or whatever it's called) is that I'm using the same laptop to access P&W every time, and nothing changes vis-a-vis my settings and whatnot, yet, sometime it says I'm viewing it in one format and sometimes not. No discernible pattern. Most peculiar. Thanks.

All right. I just switched myself from flat mode to threaded, and here's the difference. Now I see, below the message I'm looking at, all its children (replies). I suppose I would see the parents, too. In other words, the whole thread of responses to one root message.

In flat mode, I just go from one message to the next in strict chronological order. In threaded mode, I go from one message to its first reply, then to the reply to that message, and so on. Threaded mode makes it easier to track who is responding to what; in some complex discussions that could be useful.

Okay, I see what you mean; and I guess I never even noticed that button before. I agree--could be useful. Okay, then, problem solved. Thanks, pongo!
