Hi there,
I'm on the same boat as you. And I sent my transcripts pretty early as well. I think some of them went in november. I'm choosing not to worry though. I figured they just didn't update their system. I heard something on the mfa group about waiting for 2 weeks after their 2/1 deadline to see any changes. And if you don't see anything, to give them a call. Hope this helps.

thank you and good luck!

*raisinghandhighannoyinglytwistingwrist*

Greetings, I too submitted for the Fiction program and it still says my transcripts have yet to be received. But I'm not worried either. *shrug*

Good luck folks.

Same thing happened to me, so I gave the office a call and the person I spoke to reassured me that everything was in order; a week later or so I saw that the status of my application had been updated. I sent all my stuff pretty early too--just before Thanksgiving. I'd give them a call or email. Good luck!

Does anyone know about when the fiction shortlist for Hunter is announced?

There was one person who got a good news e-mail from Peter Carey last week, so seems like it can't be long now. Also, at least one person was accepted for memoir today.

That's earlier than I thought--the website said something like mid-March, I think. Do you know if it was "Good news, you've been shortlisted"? or "Good news, you've been accepted"? I wonder how many places in fiction there are this year. . . . doesn't look so great for me since I sent in my application early November and there are already deciding. Oh, well.

Re: [oscarwrites] Hunter College MFA [In reply to] Can't Post

But oscarwrites, why is it bad for you? The deadline was Feb 1. Your app was in months early! Historically, people have gotten fiction offers from Hunter anytime between late Feb. and April. On the other hand, I think they admit about 6 every year. THAT's a good reason for white knuckles.

The e-mail that the person (not me) got was to ask if he understood the funding situation at Hunter, and to ask what other schools he applied to--I guess he had left that off his application. But Peter Carey also said he liked the guy's writing sample, so obv. they are reading and sorting, and I don't think he would e-mailed if the guy hadn't made it through some kind of cut.

Okay--enough gossip and speculation for one morning. But really, it's too early for any of us to despair!

Seth's blog says Hunter notified for fiction on 2/26. With only 6 spots I imagine it's pretty much over.

Probably so, oscarwrites. Unless someone who got a call is on the fence now and ultimately turns them down... but yeah, doesn't look so good.

Thanks, cigarettes! Does Hunter send out rejection notices or leave it up to the applicant to figure out he's been rejected? And would you happen to know about Brooklyn College, whether notification for fiction has gone out yet? Unfortunately, I applied to only those two, so if not Brooklyn, then I'm out for the year.

Hi! I just joined and found this thread. I applied to 11 schools for an MFA in fiction....but Hunter is my first choice, hands down. Has anyone heard anything yet??

Acceptances have gone out in all 3 genres already. I think they give people a fairly short time to think about the offer, and then they move down the list if anyone declines. So technically, I believe we are not out of the running yet.

I go to Hunter College undergrad to make up credits from a mishap at Syracuse University. I've heard Hunter College has a great MFA program, but the campus is dingy...and I've never seen so many college smokers in my life. It's gross.

Cigarettes--Do you know anything about the MFA memoir program at Hunter? I didn't get into the fiction last year and am thinking of applying to the memoir program, as my writing is going in that direction. I heard it's even tougher to get into than the fiction program. Thanks!

Funny--I had the same thought last year when *I* didn't get in for fiction.

I think they admitted more in memoir last year than they will this year. It's a two-year program, and they had extra spots last year to fill, so it seems like that means they'll take fewer people this year. I think the total is 12 and they admitted 8 last year, so only 4 this year. But DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! If you're interested, you should def. write to them.

As always, thanks, cigarettes! I think I will try give memoir a try, even though the chances are very slim, what with only 4 places. How many applicants do you think they get a year? How good is the program, anyway?
