Speakeasy log in/registration changes

At long last, we'll be unifying the sign-in functions for the Speakeasy and the rest of the site. I'm hoping to flip the switch on it at the end of this week. Once that happens, the Speakeasy sign-in page will be re-routed to the main pw.org sign-in page. The goal is to have one sign-in that gives users access to both the Speakeasy and pw.org at the same time. I think I have all of the bases covered to make this as smooth as possible. Here are the various cases and how they'll work:
- New Registrations
New users will register through pw.org and gain access to both the Speakeasy and pw.org. Both the Speakeasy and pw.org will be checked to make sure the e-mail address and user name aren't already used. - Users with Two Separate Accounts
Users who already have both a Speakeasy account and a pw.org account will be able to sign in with their pw.org account, go to their My P&W page, and link that account to their existing Speakeasy account. They will be required to provide the Speakeasy account's user name and password. - Users with a pw.org Account Only
Users who have already registered through pw.org, but not in the Speakeasy, will be able to automatically create a matching Speakeasy account from their My P&W page. The same precautions will be used to ensure that the user name/e-mail address haven't been used already. - Users with a Speakeasy account, but no pw.org Account
Users who have registered with the Speakeasy, but have not registered through pw.org, will be able to log in using their Speakeasy user name and password and automatically create the matching pw.org account. Again, this assumes that the user name and password haven't been used. - Recovering a Speakeasy Account From a New Registration
Let's assume you could have been in number 4, above, but didn't see this until after you'd already registered a new account. You can still link that new account to your old Speakeasy account from your My P&W page as long as you have that Speakeasy account's user name and password.
If you think I've missed a case, feel free to ask me ahead of time, or ask for help if it's already gone live. No matter what, you won't lose access to your existing account on either side. I can always fix things manually if there is a problem. With the exception of signing in, this modification won't change the way the Speakeasy functions in any way. What it will do is let you use one sign in to access both the Speakeasy and the user-based functions on the rest of the site. From your My P&W page, you'll be able to update your deadline Reminders, list your Speakeasy Private Messages, see Recent Comments on articles, access your database and/or directory listings, and the rest all in one place.
