This topic is for conversations about the MFA program at UNC Greensboro.

"The Master of Fine Arts in creative writing is a two-year residency program with an emphasis on providing students with studio time in which to study the writing of poetry or fiction. The program�s flexibility permits students to develop their particular talents through small classes in writing, literature, and the arts. As a community of writers, students read and comment on each other�s work under the guidance of resident and visiting faculty, who also meet with students in one-on-one tutorials."

There might be some alumni on the board. I don't know. I do know that I talked to someone who graduated from the program recently (past 5 years or so) and he seemed rather happy with his experience there. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Didn't get many (any) specifics, but if nothing else the community seems tight...

I just finished up my first semester in Greensboro and would be happy to try to answer any questions. I can say that so far it has been a great experience here. The attention and genuine interest I sense from the faculty exceeds my expectations. The funding is pretty fantastic-- and a lot more flexible than some programs. You don't teach at all your first year (at least in your own classroom) and there are a number of options for your second year so you can kind of work with what you're interested in as far as an assistantship goes. The community here is small but but very tight knit (in a non-intimidating/non-competitive way). I can honestly say I've never felt more welcome anywhere and I strongly suggest folks still looking for schools think about uncg. :)

Does anyone know how to check the status of your application at UNC Greensboro? It's one of two schools I cannot check on, including whether or not the sample was received.

On a separate note, one of my colleagues has an MFA from Emerson and some of her writer friends did their MFA at Greensboro and absolutely loved it there too. She was not fond of her experience at Emerson by the way, she said the "quality of writing from her classmates was pitiful." She also paid for the whole thing, yuck. That was ten years ago though. For what it's worth!

Same question troubling me here. I wonder if they received my materials. They sent me a strange email today about my transcripts. I have a feeling they think my transcripts are not authentic. I am very worried!

I got an email from the grad school today, notifying that the graduate school portion of my application was finished and that it would be sent to the program. Not sure what that means, notifications in early March, perhaps? Anyone else receive this confirmation?

Has anyone heard anything else from UNCG yet? So far, no one I know has received any responses via email or telephone and this is killing me. I applied in poetry so I am wondering what is their time line for poets.
