TWO TENNESSEE WRITERS WIN WEX AWARD
Poet Blas Falconer and fiction writer Jeanne McDonald, both of Tennessee, are the
recipients of the 2009 Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award sponsored by Poets &
Writers. Falconer and McDonald will each receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New
York City in October to meet with agents, editors, publishers, and other members
of the New York literary community.

Sandra Beasley of Washington, D.C., the winner of last year's Writers Exchange Award
sponsored by Poets & Writers, will have her book Don't Kill the Birthday Girl:
Tales from an Allergic Life published by Crown Publishing Group. It was on her winning
trip to New York City that Beasley met with agent Glen Hartley, who sold her book
to Crown.
Beasley also writes about the evolution of online journals in the May/June 2009
issue of Poets & Writers Magazine.

Copper Canyon Press is the latest publisher to receive an International Literary
Exchange Award from the National Endowment for the Arts. The public agency announced
last Thursday that the press, based in Port Townsend, Washington, will receive $117,000
to support the translation, publication, and promotion of a bilingual anthology
of Chinese poetry.
