Re: [trisina] Accepted [In reply to] Can't Post

No need to apologize.

Blogging is what Tom Kealey and Seth do. I would do it if I had something to say or had anything important to contribute to the free world. Sadly, I'm too lazy for that.

Re: [indievirtue] Houston [In reply to] Can't Post

For Houston Acceptances (not sure if this applies to PhD too), just got off the phone with J. Kastley and had a really good talk about funding. As far as T.A. ships go, they won't know about them for a few weeks to a few months. He said the tuition remission only comes if you get the T.A. position. However, if you don't receive one, which he said only a few don't, you are first in line the following year (in front of all the new admittances), so guaranteed one essentially. I did get a fellowship, $5,000, and there are varying amounts being offered. As long as you get a fellowship that is at least $1,000 dollars, you get automatic in-state tuition. Hope that clears up some financial stuff you might have had on your mind.

And so it goes. Our MFA life with Raysen continues.

I might've told you this is a forum too, but not by giving you a personal essay about my life while I was at it. I'd have been like, "hey dood, this is a forum, but i am computarded so it's all the same to me, congrats!" Or something similiar.

Nonetheless, congrats trisina! Excellent news!

What's the technical difference between a forum and a blog? Once a blog becomes open to posters, it serves the same purpose as a forum.

Re: [mvalente] Accepted [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't really see one to be honest. I guess P&W lacks a blogger, as TSE is Seth's blog, though the MFA Blog is a team thingy, not strictly Tom Kealey's, so there's that.

Then, I guess there's the idea that there are blogposts versus comments, but then here the first post on a forum could be the same as a blogpost.

So really, we even bother trying to delineate between such superficial distinctions?

And what a life this is!

I would think diversity is good; that is, diversity of posters.

Peace, man. No need for such resentment. I'm really not worthy of your attention.

UH Fiction [In reply to] Can't Post

My S.O. was just accepted to the Ph.D program at UH for Fiction. It looks like we'll probably be moving there. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows about Houston or the program -- just message me. Thanks.

Accepted [In reply to] Can't Post

Just got an acceptance phone call from Brown! I am beyond thrilled. Absolutely no words for it. This was year three applying to programs. Didn't get the right funding from anywhere despite acceptances year one or year two but I held out and it paid off. (So rare that this happens in life!) I hope this is inspiring to those of you wondering whether to pay or keep pushing ahead and applying to places with fellowships! Didn't apply anywhere else this year so there will be nothing more to report. Congrats to everyone else who has applied multiple times and got better results this year!

Re: [corkeyb33] Accepted [In reply to] Can't Post

I used to play a game with myself. By examining the mascots of all the MFA schools I was considering, I could gauge my chances of being admitted. For example, the Brown Bears -- I could not relate and hence, I knew I was doomed with Brown. And what the heck is a Michigan Wolverine or a Texas Longhorn? Is Longhorn supposed to be a male cow? Isn't that a bull? I just didn't get it. Anyway, this sucker of a system works!
