I will reply because I enjoy talking about myself!
What genre are you in?
Which schools were you accepted to?
So far, Ohio State University and the University of Florida
How long have you been workshopping/writing seriously?
I believe I wrote my first poem when I was twelve, but I took my first real poetry workshop as an undergraduate in the spring quarter of my first year. That would be 2006?
Are you published?
No I have not been published in any magazines of note.
What did you do to prepare your pieces for your applications?
I am currently writing a creative writing honors thesis, which I have been working on since last spring. Most of the poems I submitted in my manuscript were from that project. They had been revised heavily, each having gone through probably four to seven revisions.
Were you an active part of the writers' networking communities/did you meet influential people at the schools before the apps?
Yes. Two of my closest friends and teachers at UCLA are Stephen Yenser and Calvin Bedient, both well known poets and critics. Additionally, I met W.S. Merwin, Henri Cole, Jay Wright, Ralph Angel, Mary Jo Bang, Rae Armantrout, Cole Swensen, and David St. John. Mind you, aside from Yenser and Bedient, the others I met briefly either before or after readings in private conferences. I am meeting Timothy Donnelly next week btw. Yes, I am a braggart and I make no apologies!
Who told you I was a racist? Was it...a minority?
