Bennington [In reply to] Can't Post

I am in for fiction. The waiting was agony. I gained weight, my vision has worsened, I pulled my hair out...
I am most certainly going, I cannot wait.

Re: [esined] Bennington [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks, esined! I am shocked and so happy. I also had another publication acceptance today. A few months ago, I felt like I was getting more rejections than anyone ever had. I am naturally unable to stick to a writing schedule as well.

I read someone else's application story that was polished and very high quality, which leaves me stunned that I was accepted. Sometimes it is just luck.

Re: [bamboogroove] Bennington [In reply to] Can't Post

Umm...I got the weirdest pre-rejection letter from Brooklyn today. The first part was a standard rejection from Prof. Patkowski (who emailed me yesterday about it when I asked for my status) and the second part is an invitation to enroll in their M.A. English program...with guaranteed acceptance. Do they send this to everyone? I'm boggled.

I'm not even sure if this should be in the "not in" thread or the "in" thread.

A few of us others got it too... and I emailed him and it's not something everyone gets at all. A few unsuccessful MFAers get offered the MA position if they so choose.

Re: [sarah_sophia] UNLV [In reply to] Can't Post

I probably am, in fiction. I haven't heard back from any other schools, which I take to be a very bad sign. I only applied to five total and UNLV is probably the best fit for me, anyway. My horizons need to be forcibly expanded and I think this would do it.

Re: [liamolly] Bennington [In reply to] Can't Post

Are you considering it? Maybe I'm too sensitive, but it feels like a slap in the face. If I wanted to do an M.A. I'd apply to English programs with better reputations and faculty I actually wanted to work with. I'm tempted to write him back saying I'm not interested in the English masters, but could he possibly get me into physical therapy? Because I REALLY want to pour my money into Brooklyn College, but I'm obviously a failure as a writer and need a different career.

Re: [MissEsquire] Bennington [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, I guess it's totally different for you. It could be looked at as a slap in the face--or it could be looked at as they wanted you but there wasn't enough space in the MFA program (which we've all learned is the case for all the schools) but if it was Brooklyn College you were interested in, here were other opportunities? I don't know though.

I am actually considering it because before I decided to apply to the MFA I was very much set on applying to PhD in English programs (because I love reading as much as I love writing) but then decided 1) I didn't want to immediately invest in such a long program and 2) maybe I really wanted to write. But I still really want to get my PhD in the future, with or without the MFA, because I want to be a professor. The MA would actually be a step in the right direct for me. In fact the one school I'm still really holding out for is an MA in Writing, not an MFA.

Don't be too hurt though! :/

Program Red Tape [In reply to] Can't Post

Is anyone else having a horrible time contacting their Universities?

I called the admin in charge at *a certain program* and rather than calling me back, she emailed me (which is fine) but she didn't answer my question. I emailed her back with the question, and she continually responded without answering my question at all. Four times!! Not only that, she sent me on a wild goose chase all over campus that led me back to her. She finally answered my question. I just emailed another member of the administration, and now they're doing the same thing!!

Anyone else having this problem?

Yes! It's awful. I just want to know if I'm accepted. This truly is agony. I got rejected from Warren Wilson this afternoon and I haven't heard from any of the other schools I applied to.

Oregon [In reply to] Can't Post

Just accepted to Oregon in poetry via phone (came off the waitlist).

Unfortunately (or fortunately), and for those interested, I won't be able to attend.

Good luck everyone,

yeah... i've sent a bunch of emails that were not returned. it was spring break last week, so i'm hoping that i get a reply shortly. there are a bunch of funding questions that i have, plus i'd like to know if they have a deadline for my decision. i'm visiting the school this weekend, so if all else fails, i'll get answers then.

good luck!

Pitt and Columbia have been good. The New School -- I sent an email and made two calls two weeks ago and haven't heard a word back. Terrible! I've given up caring about them.

Raignn,

I am happy for you. You must be so relieved.

Everyone else waiting- a bunch of spots are going to open up at various schools in the next two weeks. I poured through old messages and people really do wait until the last minute sometimes.

Re: [pensive] Program Red Tape [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes , just today I ran into a similar problem, but not as irritating as yours. I emailed the admin. at one particular school with several questions. She didn't respond for two days, so I emailed again. Today she emails back saying "I don't know" to about 3 of the questions. Which is fine if she had said -- I will find out and follow up with you later or please call so-and-so. She simply left me with , "I don't know."

Ok... so you want me to accept your offer when you can't give me some crucial info to help me decide? It just makes this whole process even more aggravating! Sorry I had to vent especially when I saw I wasn't the only one with this problem!
