Re: [esined] Warren Wilson [In reply to] Can't Post

I just found out I'm the first on the waitlist at Warren Wilson, for fiction. And accepted if I want to wait and start during the winter residency. Ack! I don't know if that officially counts as an "I'M IN!!" But it feels like it.

It was really surreal to talk to Peter Turchi from my desk at work.

Florida International. [In reply to] Can't Post

I just got a message from Denise Duhamel (!) from FIU, saying I was in with the TA-ship. I won't be going there (I already said yes to Cornell), but I'm still pretty happy.

So, final tally:

Cornell: accepted
Michigan: accepted
UMass: accepted
New Hampshire: accepted
Florida International: accepted

Virginia: waitlisted
Minnesota: waitlisted

Michener: rejected
Brown: rejected
Oregon: rejected

Hooray for this process being over!

Re: [whataneatgirl] Florida International. [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow! Sounds like you did good! Congrats on all your acceptances. I haven't heard anything from FIU yet, yikes. I know they were going to meet this afternoon and send out news afterwards. Did she send you an email, or did you get a phone message?

I sent them (and UF) a slightly different set of work samples than I did the low-res programs. The same short story, plus an excerpt from a novel-in-progress. I think the novel excerpt was a bad idea. So...we'll see what happens.

Thanks, Lyz and dunnkc!

Oh my.

THANK YOU. I don't expect to be the next person in line for the Rose Fellowship, but maybe there'll be a trickle-down effect. You know, the person who does get it gives up their previous financial package to someone else and on down the line. I'm still just waitlisted for an assistantship.

It's also just nice to know that really sweet offers do get turned down, so the waitlists aren't all for naught.

Finally, some good news! [In reply to] Can't Post

So I got a voicemail finding out I'm off the waitlist at Minnesota (3 yrs funding, stipend, health insurance, minneapolis) and while listening to the voicemail get a call from Arizona!(no word on funding, though)

Y'know, for being so unsure of what was happening, even after these schools have contacted others, I'm so relieved right now to have some options.

With that said, what do y'all know about Minnesota and Arizona (nonfiction, that is).

Does anyone know if Warren Wilson has finished contacting people for poetry? Do they contact people all at once? Over the course of a week or two? Anyone?

Re: [rooblue] Warren Wilson [In reply to] Can't Post

rooblue - I saw! Wow! Thanks! That is super helpful. I'll PM you back tomorrow.

I also just got accepted to Florida International University via email. Yay! I am taking an undergrad creative nonfiction class there now (to meet one of their eligibility requirements for number of undergrad CRW credits) and LOVE my professor (who also teaches in the MFA program), Lynne Barrett. I probably won't go there, but I wonder if I can maintain some kind of connection to/contact with the program even if I do a low-residency program somewhere else. They are a big part of the literary community here and there's a lot of good energy in the program.

It was the shortest acceptance email ever:

"Dear Esined,

You have been admitted. Congratulations. Letter to follow. We hope you will be able to join us.

Best,

Les Standiford"

So my tally so far:

Lesley - yes with $2500/year scholarship
Vermont - yes
Florida International University - yes, funding/TA-ship unknown
Warren Wilson - yes for December residency, waitlist for summer residency
Antioch - yes for December residency, waitlist for summer if i want
University of Miami - no
University of Florida - incommunicado, assumed no

Re: [podeswa] Bennington! [In reply to] Can't Post

Congratulations, podeswa! So exciting to get that call. The nonfiction faculty is really amazing.

I had also applied to Vermont and was accepted. Earlier in my search, I had considered Antioch but ultimately decided it wasn't the best fit for me. What about you?

Do you imagine you will be attending Bennington? I had exchanged e-mails with an alum, and I'd be happy to share what I learned. You could PM me, but I'm uh, a little tech-challenged. Let me know.

Congrats Jujubee! I was accepted to Mills too. I haven't gotten my aid letter but am pretty sure I will be going next year. I finally got my letter today and had almost thought I might have dreamed the conversation I had by phone telling me I was in. It feels good to hold an acceptance in hand. :)

Do you think you'll go?

Hi chelbeewrites,

I actually sent in my intent to enroll for The New School already since that was the only school that I had been accepted into. Although, an acceptance to Mills is super nice, I think I will end up at The New School this Fall.

I absolutely adore the Bay Area though! And, the Mills campus is wonderful. Great luck to you there :-)

They deferred me to January, though I might not be going now as I was just accepted to the U of MN. I told them why (am helping best friend with baby who is due June 27th--I'm the driver, etc. and am moving in part time for the summer--gotta love being a teacher for that! so they can maybe get some sleep and whatnot).

i've been accepted into bennington's june residency but can't start until next january's residency. does anyone know if they allow deferences?? any help would be appreciated!

Re: [rfleisch] Florida State [In reply to] Can't Post

They don't have TAships for everyone. I got a TAship shortly after I got accepted. I am probably not going to attend FSU for the U of MN, though, which would open up at TAship for someone else!

In Reply To
Hey everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I received a snail mail acceptance from Florida State today, for fiction.

Has anyone gotten an acceptance to FSU? I ask because my letter made no mention of funding, and I'm curious what others heard. Does this mean simply that I have no funding at all? What do you think?

Anyhow, congratulations to everyone who is hearing good things, and best of luck to everyone is still waiting on straggling schools.
