Well, a new guy.
Good morning/afternoon/evening/night/whenever you read this.
My name's Mike, and I want to be a writer.

I’m 33 years old and live in the Dallas, TX area with my wife, Mrs. Mike, and 6 month old boy, who we call Baboo. I've wanted to be a writer since I was a child, but have always let my lack of self-confidence keep me from trying. I'm currently lucky enough to have a stable job that pays the bills, but unlucky enough to be bored to tears by it. Having no marketable skills other than the ability to form complete sentences and string them together in a semi-coherent manner, I recently decided to work through the whole self-esteem thing and try my hand at writing.
After my first two attempts, a children's book and a novella, were rejected numerous times, the lovely Mrs. Mike suggested I send out feelers for a non-fiction book I'd been writing for myself, just for fun. She told me repeatedly that it was the best thing I'd ever written, and she was sure someone would be interested. As usual, she was right. I sent out 9 emails one afternoon with a query letter and two chapters of the book, and within half an hour got a response from an agent who loved it and wanted to work with me. Over the next few days, that was followed by 4 more positive responses and only one "no, thank you." (I never heard back from the other 3.) Being completely new to all this, I just picked the first one that responded, and it's been great working with him. We've been trying to get the proposal "into fighting shape," as he put it, for about a month now. He's even mentioned showing it to his movie agent when we're done, so that's exciting.
Anyway, I'm still trying to work out the kinks in my fiction, and was looking for helpful websites when I stumbled upon this one. I really liked the forum, with its opportunity to interact with people who are going through the same ups, downs, victories, defeats, hassles, frustrations, etc., that I am. I've already posted a couple of questions in the non-fiction forum and gotten some helpful responses, and I'm looking forward to getting to know the people on here better.
