hi all,

congrats to everyone who's received happy waitlist news!

just in case anyone was wondering, i called brooklyn today to ask about the fiction waitlist. emma told me there are four or five people on it. is that a lot? is anyone else out there on brooklyn's waitlist?

So I finally broke down and called Western Michigan. I'm #2 on the waitlist for acceptance and funding for poetry!! Letters are going out today for the rest of their acceptances/waiting list so check your mail boxes.

I appear to be the queen of the waitlists this year. That makes four!

Ohio State: waitlist
Pittsburgh: accepted without funding
IU: waitlist
Illinois: waitlist
Virginia: ??

I feel like at this point my odd have to be pretty good someone will want me come April!

I was just waitlisted at U of Oregon, myself.

Thus far:
UMass-Amherst: Rejected (due to enrollment reaching its capacity, or somesuch...still haven't officially received my rejection letter)
Michigan: Waitlisted
Oregon: Waitlisted
OSU: Accepted

UC-Irvine & Houston still in the wind. Man, this is getting tough.

I called Hollins University today... I was waitlisted for fiction. She said it could be a while before I find out official whether I'm in or out (I feel like i'm on Project Runway!).

So far:

Hollins - waitlisted
UMass @ Boston - waitlisted
Pittsburgh - in
New Hampshire - in
Purdue - out
Columbia - ??
UT - Michener - ?? (probably out)
Colorado State - ??

Congratulations!

I have no idea. As far as I've seen none one on any of the boards has noted an acceptances to Western Michigan (or IU or Illinois for that matter) in poetry. Just goes to show how many people there are that aren't as crazy as us :)

I can't imagine anyone going through the insanity of applying to an MFA program NOT stalking these message boards. I have this one, Seth's, and Godfrey's in my favorites at home and work. Crazy?...Absolutely...Necessary?...Definately!

Also, I wanted to say how grateful I am for all of the support on this forum! It makes my crazy a little less manic. :-)

I was told I'm #1 on the wait list for poetry at the University of Minnesota. Anyone know of the chances of getting in? It's my first choice school, though I've got some other good acceptances. I'm afraid of holding out for a school that won't let me in and losing the other good options.

I'm also going to take myself off the acceptance lists of others as soon as I can, since I'm sure others are dancing around, just as I am. So if you're accepted somewhere and aren't going: notify as soon as possible! :)

I agree with this.

Mods, can a new thread be opened where people can say where they've decided to go, and what other offers they're turning down? Maybe I'm overly obsessive, but it seems like a nice way for us waitlisters to see where we stand.

(Also, I'm #2 on the Minnesota nonfiction list, none of you accepted people want to go somewhere that cold, do you?)

msuttonkiefer, I'm in at MN and as of now it's looking very likely that I'm going to go. I'm waiting on 2-3 other schools that may change my mind, but those aren't looking promising. I'll let you know, though, as soon as I can. There's one other MN poetry acceptee floating around on the Speakeasy as well, so maybe she'll have info for you. As for the other 2-3 accepted folks (I believe MN took 4 or 5 poets total, all fully funded with TAships), they seem to have managed to avoid this blog/message board obsessiveness, or they're keeping very quiet about it!

Anyway, the waiting sucks but hang in there. If I may ask, what are your other good options?

I was accepted into Emerson and FSU (with TAship) for regular res, as well as Vermont College, Pacific University, New England College, and Goddard for low res. I'm still waiting on a handful of other schools, but MN is where I want to go, hands down.

I'm married and living in MN. My husband has made it clear that he wants me to follow my dream, which is to pursue a regular res program, but he wouldn't be able to come with me as he's got a good job and it isn't particularly easy to transfer.

This whole process is just hideous; it's so horrifying to feel so open and raw about it.

Kate88, are you leaning towards going? I have actually taken some classes in the MFA program as an undergrad, so I can tell you what they're like, and I'll be honest, even if I want to bake you many cakes and send you flowers if you decline admission.

hi, hello!
has anyone wait listed at michigan called the department to inquire about their place on the waiting list? i would like to do so but i've been feeling shy and somewhat disheartened... because i sort of don't want to know if my chances are not good.

this is because i've contacted the other place i was wait listed at and they told me i was number 5 on the list. i don't suppose my chances are so good when they only accept 5.

oh, how i long for acceptance!

Has anyone out there been waitlisted at UMass Amherst?? I haven't yet received my rejection letter and it seems like a lot of people have, so I'm wondering if there's a chance I'm on some sort of waitlist. So, anyone else waiting to hear from UMass?

Also I guess I'll repost this (I already posted it in the Alabama thread)--I'm on the waitlist at Alabama, fiction.

Wisconsin, where I'm waitlisted, has explicitly told applicants not to inquire about one's position on the list. This makes it stressful and bewildering.

That's the purpose of the I'M IN thread, to tell everyone where you're going and to answer questions like what schools have you turned down. Unfortunately, that thread has been used to discuss waitlisting, rejections, funding and TAs. Topicality can be a big challenge when you've just got to tell someone something!
