I also applied to IU in poetry. I assume nothing, since as far as we know, nothing has been announced yet!

Ha. I double majored, with that second major being in Dramatic Writing (playwriting emphasis). Nice.

No luck right now with the apps, but there are still a few to hear from (bigguns though: Iowa, U Cal Irvine, Brown, and UVA). This was my first year applying, and if nothing works out, I've learned a lot that I can apply toward next year's applications.

How are things on your end?

I think a couple of people have reported acceptances in fiction for Indiana. Also, some have been wait listed. I figure that, if wait list notices have gone out and I haven't heard anything, I'm probably SOL.
I don't know what the situation is for poetry, though.

I've been rejected from Washington/St. Louis, Wisconsin, and Western Michigan. I haven't heard from Michigan, but I'm sure I'll get the rejection letter today. I was accepted to Pitt! Indiana, Iowa, and Notre Dame have all sent out some acceptances...I haven't heard anything. I'm still waiting to hear from some quiet schools too... Brown, Sarah Lawrence, Bowling Green, and Virginia. That's the scoop so far.

Hello!

I noticed on Seth's blog that San Francisco State notified their Fiction people via phone on Friday, 2/29. Has anyone heard from SF State directly? I haven't heard anything from them since getting all riled up to receive a big envelope from them last week and having it turn out to be just a financial aid packet that they send to all their applicants. What a waste of paper!

I'm in a similar boat (poetry). Rejected officially by Wash U, OSU, and Western Mich. Assuming rejection from IU, Iowa, Vanderbilt, and dear old Michigan. Accepted to two schools, thrill level: mediocre. Has anyone applied to Columbia College or Roosevelt University in Chicago? I did, as a safety, but I'm not sure that even my safety schools are...safe anymore.

Sonata7,

If Arkansas is your mediocre acceptance, I still think you're doing OK!

To anyone who applied to Florida State:

I just called the department and spoke to the graduate advisor. They sent out rejection notifications on Friday to everyone who didn't make their short list (of 65). I believe that number only includes fiction.

Not sure when final decisions will be made, but I think it's safe to assume they'll be making their calls by next week.

Minnesota's "prospectives" weekend? [In reply to] Can't Post

I just posted this on Godfrey's blog but am trying to cover all bases, so bear with me...

Someone tell me this is NOT a joke (the MFA gods would be too cruel) - I just got an email from Minnesota inviting me to their MFA "prospectives" weekend with the greeting line "Hello Creative Writing MFA admits" - AGGGH!!!! But this is the first I've heard - no acceptance letter, no acceptance email, no phone call....did anyone else get this? I'm panicking that they accidentally sent it out to the whole list or something...

this is for poetry, btw.

I must breathe...

Possible extreme excitement?????

Definitely call! That would be a cruel joke, otherwise. Maybe someone's a little slow on their acceptance calls and whoever's organizing the Prospective weekend beat them to the punch.

I hope that's the case! Good luck!

I love that one of us got the opportunity to give that kind of news. Minnesota's program looks great. Congratulations.

In indeed! I emailed Julie and she emailed me back, letter's in the mail with full details. So excited! Kate, are you in for poetry or fiction?

Thanks for the quick responses & the congrats - I ran out for lunch and came back and saw them all and felt all warm & fuzzy inside.

Here's hoping for good news for everyone this week!

I went back and was looking through all the correspondence I had with all the schools while I was applying (Purdue does their transcripts weird so I ended up having to re-send transcripts to almost all my schools).

According to this email from Illinois I got in January, they won't be making decisions until late March. Although they may have just said that to give them enough time so people wouldn't bug them :)

"
Your application for admission is now complete and will enter the competition for the Fall 2008 semester. Decisions on the applications will be made in late March."

Oh my gosh, Kate88 and Vesuvia, that was a really neat and fun exchange. I feel happy just seeing it! I'm sort of wishing I applied to Minnesota, now. I didn't since I've lived in the Cities my whole life (except for college) and I'm ready to get out. But congrats! That's awesome. If you have any general questions about the cities, drop me a line. I also work at the University so I could answer questions about the campus, too.

Wow. Fun!

I saw on Seth's blog that someone had been rejected from Texas State. Anyone else? And if so, how were you notified? I haven't heard a peep from my last 8 schools!

Florida State
UNCW
Texas State
UT Austin
Colorado State
UC Irvine
Oregon
Syracuse

This is making me nuts! I would almost rather start getting some rejections than keep on sitting in silence.

On a happy note, I went to Oprah this morning, so if you watch it today, I'm the blonde in the bright blue dress, jumping around like an idiot.

Re: [jayg] This Week [In reply to] Can't Post

i received a letter today in the mail before leaving for work informing me that i was rejected from texas state. this is my second go-round at applying to schools and though i felt much more informed about the process this time, i still have no idea what i am/was up against. 10 schools this time, rejections from 5. i know that everyone says 'it's not over until it's over,' but i am not optimistic and, to be honest, slightly disheartened by the entire experience. but, that could just be my grief speaking...that and that adverse effects of a life lived under fluorescent lighting.

That's hilarious!

Today's sign that I'm way too freaked out: When reading the "I'm In!" thread Vesuvia mentioned Syracuse because of a rejection in poetry (I'm waiting to hear about fiction) and my eyes actually slid out of focus as blood rushed to my head. Just the word "Syracuse" in the "I'm In!" thread and I went slightly crazy.
