Introductions? Can't Post

I just signed up. Is there a place where I should introduce myself?

We're not much on formal introductions around here. Just jump right in.

And welcome to the Speakeasy.

Welcome to the Speakeasy, BiblioBuffet. We're glad to have you on board. What sort of writing do you do?

Hi BB and welcome to the Speakeasy.

In answer to your question...what David said. Just jump right in. There are many ongoing conversations and room enough for everyone to post an opinion or suggestion.

I'd recommend that you get the lay of the land first before starting any new threads but if you've got a hot topic to talk about and you've gone back and read through the existing topics in that forum and couldn't find an appropriate one to revitalize, then feel free to start a new discussion.

Enjoy!

Dana

Re: [motet] Introductions? [In reply to] Can't Post

There seems to be some confusion about access to posting in the "Announcements & Introductions" thread. David seems to be right (in the exchanges quoted below), that no one can post in it, but is he right that it is intentionally so, that it is "archived?" The response to another person attempting to post there just five or six weeks ago seems to the contrary. If it is intentionally so, perhaps a sticky note or something to alert patrons, particularly new patrons, would help.

Today, in Fiction:

Evidently, I'm not allowed to post messages in the Introductions section, so I'll do it here.

It's not just you. No one can post in the Introduction section -- it's an archive, not an active board.

From back in November, now in the Announcements & Introductions:

I've been trying to post this in announcements & Introductions, but everything there so No Post. I've also had a heck of a time getting user id and password worked out, so I hope I'm on the right track.

the response:

Welcome to the Speakeasy, Diane. I'll go ahead and move this over to introductions I'm not sure why you're having trouble posting there).

I hope you get your technical issues resolved and if you have any questions, please ask!

Re: [whimsy] Introductions? [In reply to] Can't Post

I was thinking of the Introductions section in the archives, not this, which is a thread. There is an Announcements and Introductions topic, but I suspect most people don't read it as being about introductions because reading a long list on a computer screen tends to make some people (me, for example) skim inefficiently.

I suppose the introduction area could be made more prominent.

Unfortunately, there is a posting problem in Announcements and Introductions. I'll alert Jason.

As for the issue of prominence, we should probably change the topic name to just Introductions since there doesn't seem to be much needs for an announcements area.

Sorry about that. I'm not sure how or when it got changed, but it's set for open posting now.
