Have any of you guys tried looking at your potential future schools with Google maps and Streetview? Sometimes, it's hard to "see" the campus because in many cases, the campus itself is not part of Streetview. For example, I tried Brown a few times and I can't get past their stupid brick wall that surrounds the campus. I can't see much of Johns Hopkins either. Same with UC Irvine, I can circle the campus, but not look inside. Grrrrr...Now, Iowa on the other hand, I can see because I guess the city itself is integrated with the campus. Of course, there are pockets of darkness here and there.
From Google maps, I love the way Iowa looks with the Iowa River snaking through the campus. But we all know how dangerous it can be to situate your dwelling too close to something so beautiful. Can Iowa survive another flood? Is the physical university in jeopardy?
I think I posted elsewhere that I tried to get a glimpse of the Michener Center in Texas. From Streetview, the building was one of the saddest things I've encountered. The photos were probably not truly representative of its charm and grandeur. I'm guessing.
