Re: [brooklynpoet] Combating Post-Application, Pre-Acceptance Anxiety [In reply to] Can't Post

BrooklynPoet,

You're welcome and unless there's a tremendous outpouring of sentiment concerning the title, I think I'll leave it this way.

I like the idea that all of us will be accepted somewhere, and if it isn't this year maybe it will be next.

I also like the idea that there's acceptance in everyone's future, even if it isn't into an MFA program.....

things you can do instead of obsessively reloading this board: [In reply to] Can't Post

consider this the self-help thread... or even a public service announcement.

me, well, since the heat's newly broken at my house and the sky's doing a gross, cold slushy rain/snow thing outside, i'm going to rub two pencils together (this is the writerly nod) until i can generate a spark. then i'm going to start a small bonfire with the two rejection letters (or, in the parlance of another thread, the two "dear john"-- make that "dear alexandria"-- letters) i've received thus far. and then i think i'll rip open a packet of cocoa from the cupboard and attempt to toast the tiny faux-marshmallows in it.

or maybe i'll just shut down the computer and go play with my dog.

anyone else?

(edited to remedy punctuation chaos)

I got some help from mother nature today....the snow and ice closed the schools so I was forced out of my board mode, away from the e-mail and hand-wringing...outside for a snowball fight with my kids....how refreshing! For hours I didn't think about MFA!

Cheat! Cheat! Cheat! I cheat on myfuckingself! I ran out of groceries, so, well, it's a beautiful day here in CA (no snow, folks :)) so I said, I'll go for a nice drive, then go to this excellent grocery place, treat myself to some wine and steak (besides the usual fruit, rice, bread, etc.), and, well, go back home, tinker a little bit with my lecture for tomorrow, maybe play the guitar (maybe write?), and --yeah I'll stop. I did do the groceries. I did buy steak. I did buy wine. But as soon as I parked, I almost jumped onto my letterbox: nothing. That freaking mailbox had been in my mind all the time, from this morning in yoga, to the time when I was discussing my students's papers, to the time when I was picking the freaking steak. OK, phone messages: nope. E-mail: Rien, Monsieur, rien. C'est la vie.

I have to get myself a dog. (But I never wanted one after my one and only dog died, years ago. I think the mourning period should be over, now, though).

And, well, Alexandria, I will start doing the rub-the-pencils thing.

OK, this may be just my oversensitivity given this PAPAA (Post-Application, Pre-Acceptance Anxiety) that you guys are talking about (and I'm experiencing as well), but Dana's phrase sounded really soothing: "I also like the idea that there's acceptance in everyone's future"
