Hello everyone. My name is Laura, I am new to writing...well kinda, I have been dabbling for years but only recently decided to really try my hand at write something others may want to read. I am married with 2 teenage boys that provide me with tons of material on a daily bases. I suffer from adult ADD, and Bi-Polar disorder, the ADD makes it hard to get a full story out of my head at times. I have notebooks full of one or two paragraph stories that I had in my head and had to get out. Slowly I am reading through them and attempting to maybe be able to expand on some.I tend to dabble on a almost daily bases, but I am trying to keep myself focused on getting back to basics and refreshing my basic grammar. I am here to learn to become a better writer, and would welcome any impute anyone would be willing to give.
I look forward to meeting new friends :)

Might I suggest setting a modest daily goal as a means for getting stuff written with the adult ADD. Aim for, say 1 or two pages per day. Each day, re-read what you have so far, then add another page.

Hello, Motet,
I am still having trouble understanding the way a forum works and how to post. I copied this to your post from "New Post". Still learning. Thank you.
My name is Norma Iris and I am somewhat new to the forums. I write poetry, short fiction and hopefully looking to submit them along with an essay or two. I only posted twice before years ago because I didn't know how to use the internet before and stayed away.
Hope to pick up some writing advice.
I remain,
Norma Iris

Dear Laura,

Welcome! I am new also. About your one and two page stories - why not combine some into a short story. Or, make each short stories and put together as a collection. Short stories are a wonderful way to learn how to focus and learn the writing basics too. That is how I am teaching myself because I have several Ideas and sometimes it is hard finishing something completely. So, I've decided to try the short story way to gather strength and mastery of story telling.

I remain,

Sincerely Norma Iris

Welcome, Norma. You can add to a string by clicking on the "Reply" link, or "Reply with quote." And I'm afraid Motet hasn't been seen around here for some time, but I may be able to answer specific questions about the forums.

Dear Pongo,
Thank you. I am embarrassed. Also, no one else has left me a welcome on the Introductions. Embarrassed again.
I switched to Basic Editor because I don't know how to maneuver around the forums (answering, replying). It's going to take some time. But if I practice, I'll learn it.

Don't worry about the lack of other responses; traffic has been pretty slow here lately, so it isn't anything personal.

Dear Pongo,

Thank you. Feel much better. Okay, now I am using the basic editor to type this message. I can't seem to use the Advanced Editor - but still feel okay about it. I am going to just look around, to get familiar with Replying and Advanced Editor.

Thanks Pongo
I remain, Sincerely

Hi! I'm Marie Kessler Kaminski and I'm new to Speakeasy. I'm 14 years old and live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and I'm starting my (I guess you would call it at this point) career in writing. I'm super excited about it but I'm kinda just here to figure out what works for me and what doesn't. I like unicorns so... and I like blue cookies? Yay?

Welcome, Marie! Are you familiar with Bruce Coville's unicorn books?

Blue cookies, though? I'm not sure I've ever seen any blue cookies.

Hi! I live over 40 years under the name Natalie. I'm a mother of a young boy, named Aidan. Seven years ago, Brian, Aidan's father, left us. So from that time I'm a lonely widow. I registered here to develop my writing skills, because I was always passionate about writers in all circumstances, from articles to great novels! I am trying hard in writing craft, and ready to work harder. I live in New York, and working as chief writer/editor at GetGoodGrade company. I love my job, my son, and my city. Hope to join this community for squeezing all sorts of information from it.

Regards,
Natalie Andersen

We've changed the name of this forum to Announcements & Introductions in order to give new patrons a place to post their first time hellos.

If you've just joined the Speakeasy or you're finally ready to come out of lurking mode, please stop by here and say Hi.

Dana Davis
Speakeasy Administrator, Moderator and all-around Ms. Fix-It Hi, Dana My name is Steve Smith. I'm new to this forum. I'm an emerging writer from Texas. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been working hard to improve my writing skills since 2012. I just had a story published in Reminisce magazine. Yea! I'm currently doing a revision on a book titled "HEALED: A STORY OF HOPE." I want to interact with other professional writers, so I can continue to learn about the art of writing a well-crafted story. I hope to be a member of this community for many years to come. Have a nice day! The eyes of Texas are upon you. LOL

Hi, Everyone
My name is Steve Smith. I'm an emerging writer from Texas and I'm new to this forum. I just had a story published in Reminisce magazine titled How To Make A Living On $1.25 An Hour. Woo Hoo! A first for me. I'm hoping to meet nice people, so I can have an ongoing dialog with them about the world of writing. I'm trying to improve as a writer and trying to earn a little money by doing so. I'm currently revising a book titled "HEALED: A STORY OF HOPE." It's a slow and tedious process as many of you already know. I just wanted to say hello. I hope we can be friends. Have a nice day! I'm trying to do as E.B. White suggested in The Elements of Style. I'm trying not to drain from the pond of formal prose. LOL See you around. :)
