Re: [motet] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's great to discover this magazine and website! I have been writing regularly for newsletters and occasional newspaper pieces. For the last five years, I have been writing online Bible Study lesson plans for the print journal, Baptists Today. It is downloaded 3.500 times weekly.
Privately, I've written many poems and songs, but have seldom shared them. After years and years of having "send something off" as a New Years resolution, I finally took the plunge in October and a few weeks later (this week) got my first official rejection notice, but it was kind and wished me luck, which I choose to take in the best way.

Congratulations on the rejection notice! Really, it's a start, and without the start there is no progress. And if anyone tells you they've never gotten a rejection, there are two possible reasons: they never submit, or they lie.

Re: Hello I'm new to PW [In reply to] Can't Post

“Hello I am T. Dwella”
I am new to the forum and the PW website in general. I am a junior in college my major is English—my minor in film. I love, love, love fiction writing but I am currently having an affair with poetry (Shhhhh...don't tell anyone).
Recently significant happenings in my life: Fall semester of 2014, I had an absolutely phenomenal "Intro to Creative Writing" professor (Dr. Maun) and I don't think she realizes how incredible she really is. She peeled back my scab of fear and found a healing poet underneath. The details of which would definitely be a topic for another discussion—or book :-)
Past significance: After more than 22yrs. working in mediocre positions with mediocre companies, I decided to return to college and complete my degree. Only this time I found the courage to pursue writing—a field that I am excited about.
Who am I? Basically I am a wife, mom, grandma (Nana), and student. Oh, and let’s not forget:
The poster child for “It’s never too late to follow your dreams!”

Re: [briannarosier] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, everyone! My name is Paul Klenk, and I live in New York City.

Writing is not my profession; by day I work in an office, and by night I pursue a career as a singer and pianist. But writing has been a recurring passion for a long time, and a few recent successes the past few months have spurred me to pursue it more actively. It is actually starting to become a calling, and a gratifying one.

I love to write for the Metropolitan Diary in The New York Times. This week they published my first poem, under the headline "A Reader at Home in Middle-Earth" (I would have titled it "Illustrated"). It will appear in Monday's print edition. It was a very joyful piece to write, and now I want to write more poems. It would be interesting to hear other writers' candid thoughts, whatever they may be, about this Times column.

My writing has been influenced greatly by George Orwell, particularly his essay "Politics and the English Language." Over the past five years or so, his influence on my writing has been eclipsed by Timothy Keller.

A neglected talent I may start bringing back (and hiding in other forms of writing) is anagramming. An excellent anagram ~ can relax a gentleman.

I don't read perhaps as much as I ought to, and am completely unaware of current books and writers, but a favorite novel of mine is "Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn. Her use of language is quite delicious.

One person who I love to listen to when he speaks, and who, although not technically a spoken word artist, could easily be classified as one, is sleight-of-hand artist Ricky Jay. He is a master of language, and a friend of David Mamet, whose use of language I also admire.

I look forward to learning from this group!

My grandfather was made into a hat.

Hello All, my name is Felicia, self pronounced lurker, and I am new to the group. I have been writing for years, but due to marriage, children and bills, I took a break to work in areas I hate. I am returning to what I know best, writing, and starting over in my career. I am in the Atlanta metro area and searching for writing groups, but most importantly, I would love a mentor. I am ecstatic with all the possibilities in the future. Thanks for taking the time to read my little hello.

I write poetry, fiction, non fiction and essays. I am also working on a novel for the last 2 years. So this project actually takes most of my time. My life is pretty full, and I am having difficulty finding the time and motivation to finish my novel.
