Re: [lit_scribbler] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello Scott,

This is my first time on Speakeasy and after reading the first handful of messages, I stopped at yours and clicked on the link that took me to your short story. Let me qualify this by saying that I love reading short stories and have been attempting to write a few of my own.

I expected your story to be mediocre, though I am not sure why, and was so pleasantly surprised to have thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations on your first success in this venue. I wish you many more.

Though Doyle may be a common name, any relation to Kevin Doyle married with 3 children? He and his wife are friends.

My question relates to your writing group. I live near UCLA and am just beginning to look into finding a writing group. Will you advise me on a place to start? I have also written poetry and aspire to feel comfortable enough one day to show my work. I am also looking for a creative writing class so that I may feel secure that the fundamentals of my writing are still in tact. Though it was a decade ago, I briefly wrote and produced longform television, but at this stage I feel very out of the loop.

Thank you, and anyone else on Speakeasy, for any advice you may have for me.

Warmly
Karin

Re: [motet] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

My name is David Hyde Jr. and after taking a Creative Writing class I think I have really found my place in the world. I really like to write and I find I seem to have a natural affinity for it... or maybe not. Either way it will be interesting to see what comes form it. I write poetry, essays, and what my close circle refer to as tangents. I have plans for some novels but I want to try my hand out at some of the basics first. I am a Gemini and I live up to my dual nature very well( though it took some time to come to terms with it). As much as am I cynical I believe in hopes and dreams. As bitter as I can be I am also humorous and mischievous. As out of my mind as I act, I can be completely grounded and rational. Anyway, you get where I am going. I am a been there done that kind of person with a lot of life I like to embellish on and create stories with. Well, whatever, here is my introduction. I may be long in the tooth but I am wet behind the ears when it comes to this. So any thoughts, ideas, or advice I am all ears most of the time.

Hi Everyone. I am Dmitry Selemir and I am one of the people behind Scriggler.com - a new social network, writing, blogging and debating platform. It is a free space for people to come and share their thoughts, ideas, observations, stories, poetry, research, discuss the news etc. etc. Basically no limits on topics or lengths of publications. There is a commenting system and like/dislike buttons, so the audience can get involved in more ways than one. We also provide very detailed stats on how the audience is interacting with your publications. Here's the link to a more detailed article (and also a look at how the website looks like): https://scriggler.com/SharePost/Opinion?cash=de9107a25dc3085453ffe9255ae3b3a5
We run a monthly writing contest among our members, just to make things more interesting. The prize is Facebook (and we added Twitter too) publicity campaign for the winning author and the winning article. Competition is judged by the whole audience of the website. There is a point system - people collect points for publishing, commenting, receiving likes and comments from others. These points (Scriggles as we call them) determine the winners.Above all it's a fun place - there is a lot of interesting material to read and discuss. We'll be glad to welcome you if you decide to join in. Do feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Thanks!

Hello, my name is Joel. I live in the Milwaukee area, but I have lived most of my life in New York State. I play guitar and write both lyrics and poetry. Writing and creating music comes to me naturally. I'm also into Science fiction and comic books; ones with good writing in particular. I have been writing poetry since I was a teen and as of late been writing again. I am looking for an outlet to share my works, as well as getting my work published and copyrighted. If anyone can point me in that direction I would be forever in your debt! :) Please feel free to leave me a message.

Welcome, Joel. What part of New York State? We have a bunch of people here who live or lived in NY.

And would you be interested in opening a topic on writing lyrics, maybe in the Poetry section? It's one of the few areas where poets might make some money, and I (for one) would be interested in exploring that skill set.

Hello! I have been writing for years and found myself more dedicated to the craft after my return from Afghanistan. I stick with poetry and, as a Dad, childrens' stories. I have published some poetry and am now exploring how to publish an anthology and working on finding an illustrator for the childrens' stories.

I am an avid reader of P&W and look forward to engaging with you all on this forum.

Best,

-Anthony

Re: [motet] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, I'm new to all of this. I've been writing poetry for the last 30 years and have decided to publish my works but I'm not sure where to begin. This website seems to be informative. My career in the arts has come full circle. 18 years ago, I was a student at AIPH for music and video business. I put my career on hold as I was married, had a daughter and pretty much made family life my priority. Now, at 46, I'm experiencing dramatic life change as my 16yr old daughter is attending college and I'm about to be divorced. For the first time in years, I see opportunities to return to having a "career" instead of working jobs (just to pay the bills). I had forgotten that I have an incredible passion for writing, music and the visual arts as well and I'm extremely excited about following those passions to see how far I can go with them. I also play guitar(self-taught) and have composed at least 10 original songs.

Salutations [In reply to] Can't Post

Greetings everyone,
My name's Donald, I'm a 23 year-old poet from Long Island and have been writing seriously since my Senior Year in High School. I went to a community college for three semesters but felt that I was wasting time and money (my major was Creative Writing). I'm an avid reader and by reading many other poets I've developed my own style. I run a poetry blog and have just recently self-published. Looking forward to meeting new writers!

Welcome, Victoria.

I might suggest that you try to get some short work finished and published before you try to publish a book. Even if it takes you four years, 21 is very young to publish a book.

Welcome, Tommie Lee.

We have a poetry section, but not anything devoted particularly to song lyrics. And we're not much on writing music. But lyrics are a form of poetry, so maybe we hae some lyricists here. If not, maybe you can teach us something.
