"In Reply To" Can't Post

How do I go about responding to a portion of an earlier post by including the text label "In Reply To" followed by a text passage copied from the earlier post?

Also, is it possible to do this for multiple passages from multiple posts?

I'm sorry to bother you if this question has already been answered. I looked everywhere I could think of before I posted this.

P.S. - For your information, in deference to my old eyes, I normally start my Firefox browser with several levels of "larger text" as the default. This causes the "Post New" button to drift off the right edge of the screen. I had to solve this problem first in order to post this question.

I did this by clicking on the little quotation mark icon at the top of the message. That does mean that you can only do it for one message at a time, unfortunately, unless you want to play with the codes directly or the buttons at the bottom of the message-writing area. For example, the next little bit I'm going to write

Quote
should appear to have been quoted.

For this I clicked the "quote" button, then typed, then clicked the same button again to turn off the indications of quoting.

With larger fonts I don't know how much of this is visible onscreen, though.

Here's how I am able to get the "In Reply To" icon to appear rather than the Quote icon.

First, I use the "quotations" button (rather than the reply arrow) when I initially repond to the post. That will put the entire text of the post I'm responding to inside the "In Reply To" bars.

Yes, just scroll down through the text and delete what you're not replying to. When you come to a passage for a response, highlight that passage and click on the
RE: icon at the top of the page. That will put just the highlighted text inside the "In Reply To" bars.

When you're finished replying and/or deleting, you may find you have an extra "In Reply To" icon or solid line at the top or bottom of your post. I just highlight and then delete whatever seems extraneous to tidy up the post.

It's no problem, Bob. Some things are just not that obvious and we're happy to help.

Like David, I'm not sure how to help you solve that.... may Jason or someone else will have a suggestion.

Re: [motet] "In Reply To" [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you David and Dana.

I just tried it in another thread, and wasn't able to separate my reply outside of the lines I was replying to. I'll keep trying and get back if I still have problems.
