Re: [BeaSue] Memoirs Can't Post

Could you please direct me to the Silence thread, and The Memory Room? I am not yet skilled at finding specifics.

Thanks,
FlamingSky

Right now, the Silence topic is 3 or 4 topics down on page 2 of the fiction section.
(Page numbers appear at the bottom of the page when you are in any topic.

Searching for information [In reply to] Can't Post

Skye,

At the top of every page you'll see 6 icons across the screen - Main Index, Edit Profile, Messages, Search Posts, Who's Online and Log Out.

The search function can be very helpful in finding information located somewhere here at the Speakeasy. When you click on the Search Posts icon you can enter specific terms to help you find the post, topic or forum you're looking for so entering "Silence" or "Memory" will bring back a number of hits for you to check.

Skye,

Unfortunately, when you're searching a word like "Silence" you get a ton of hits (I got 3 pages of them!).

Fortunately, Clair is the author of the topic you're looking for and she was kind and generous enough to point you quickly in the right direction (thank you, clair!)

The search function does work although it may take some time to sort through the many hits you'll get. To shortcut a bit, you might click on the most recent (date-wise) hits first and that could help you find what you're looking for a little faster.

As for the Memory Room, I think BeaSue was referring to a book and not a thread or a forum here.

Dana

Re: [motet] Searching for information [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Dana,
Thank you very much. I had reread the messages when I couldn't find "the memory room" and figured out it was a book, and available at my library.

Yes, searching will take some time, but at least I have the silence thread, and can read back through the messages.

Best,
Skye

Dana Found it, Dana. It's the "Quote" button that I wanted. BeaSue helped me. Skye

Good, I'm glad you're getting the hang of the posting options here but just a little note about your comment in Memoirs - "Okay, I'm not dumb here, and rather techie to boot. "

Skye, I wasn't suggesting that you were dumb. Not at all. But I have no way to know what your level of technical knowledge is and the fact is that many people are nervous about using unfamiliar software and get easily discouraged. Hence my suggestion (and my wink) that you just play around with all the buttons to see what they did without worrying about what they might do.

On a side note, asking a technical question that lasts for several posts while in the middle of another thread can often throw the conversation off track. If you (or anyone!) has questions about how things work here or any question unrelated to where you find yourself posting at the moment, I would ask that you come into this forum and topic and ask your question here where everyone has the opportunity to ask and answer questions in an unhurried and fully explanative way without disrupting the flow of an existing discussion.

Thanks for your interest in the Speakeasy and hope that you're enjoying your visits here.

Dana

Re: [motet] Searching for information [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Dana,
Thank you so much for working to assist me, and I did not mean to suggest that you thought I was dumb. I was feeling a bit dumb not figuring it out on my own.

I didn't consider that my post might derail, and I appreciate the heads up.
I thought that BeaSue, who had successfully just done what I hoped to learn, could easily teach me. I'll be more careful in the future, and post here instead when I have questions about the interface.

Yes, I am enjoying the interchanges about writing here very much.
