How important is the outline that you are asked to submit along with your actual writing sample?

What outline? It sounds like that's the requirement of one particular program. If that's the case, then I'd say the outline is important.

I'd have to agree. I applied to 4 schools, looked closely at a dozen others, and never saw anything about an outline. So if a program is asking for one, it must be important to them.
