we are in the same boat.... I also sub here in california and it pays $105 a day...I truly enjoy seeing the kids and interacting with them. I started a credential program (here in california single subject credential programs are a year long, plus all the "pre candidate" course work one has to do--so it can take up to 2 years before you start student teaching) but realized that all the red tape that you mentioned simply killed my ambition of being a teacher. there are days, when i'm subbing, that i regret dropping out. those days get worse when i hear of past classmates that have landed teaching jobs, but i don't let them bog me down too much, but it does kinda sting. but the worst days are when the students ask me "so do you want to be a REAL teacher? or just a sub" it's those days that get the best of me Andy
