sorting with most current messages first?? Can't Post

Hi,
Is it possible to sort the forums with the most current messages first? It takes so much time to find the current dates!

Thanks,
Skye

Re: [skyeblaine] sorting with most current messages first?? [In reply to] Can't Post

Skye, I havent done anything to mine, Im not sure where preferences might be, but it always comes up with the most recent messages first, at least in the actual string itself. Maybe there's a seekrit place one can go to, to make it happen as the default, but I have yet to find it...

(edit) ahaha if you go to the task bar at the top and click on :"Edit Profile" you have the option of changing the default settings, at least to a certain degree. that might help.

This may help:

If you go to "Edit Profile:Display Settings" and set In flat view, when viewing thread: to "Jump to first unread post", then any time you enter a thread it will automatically take you to the first post you haven't already seen.

Here's the catch: when you enter a thread/topic it automatically assumes you've seen every post in it. Ordinarily that's not a problem, but with some of the long threads/topics that have been moved over from the archive you may not get to read them all in one sitting. In that case, you can use the "shortcut" link on each post to save a "favorite" or "bookmark" that will return you directly to that post.

IE users should see "Copy Shortcut" under the poster's information on each post. Just click on that and paste it into a new favorite. Users of other browsers can copy that link by whatever method their browsers/operating systems use.

I'm currently sketching out a kind of "dogear" feature to make that a little bit easier, but it won't be done right away.

Re: [jason] sorting with most current messages first?? [In reply to] Can't Post

Jason,
thanks for replying.
I have that setting already (flat view, jump to first unread post).

I think the problem might be that I have hundreds of unread posts, and don't want to go back and read them. I want to start now, and move forward. I was hoping for a "sort" button, where one could simply reverse the order, like I can do, for example, in Outlook Express--where I can tap the top of the column, and the sort reverses. Very helpful.

Any other suggestions??
Skye

Now this is very weird. When the forum redirects me back after posting a message, there is a list of messages with just that kind of button at the top of the column.

What is that view called? It's the one I want: where I can see the subjects, but not all the text.

I apologize if this is more information than you want. I'm just trying to be complete.

It sounds like you're looking at a forum, which lists the topics/threads in sortable columns. If you look at the "bread crumb trail" heading, it should say something like:

Main Index: Writing and Publishing: MFA Programs

That tells you you're in the "MFA Programs" forum, which is in the "Writing and Publishing" category.

The list of threads/topics shows the original title, who started it, how many replies it contains, how many times it's been viewed, who posted to it last, and when. It will also show you if there are any NEW posts that you haven't already seen.

When you click on the title of one of the threads/topics, that's when it shows you the posts and jumps to the first NEW one.

So that would explain my sagging bookshelves and the overflow stacks on the floor.... And I just thought it was an obsession.
