Customizing Your Speakeasy Experience Can't Post

The new Speakeasy gives you many ways to customize your experience. You can set the software to behave the way you want and make it more comfortable to use. These are just a few of the ways in which you can tailor your experience in The Speakeasy.

To make these changes, go to Edit Profile:Display Options.

  • Flat vs. Threaded

    • This controversy has raged since the pre-Internet days of dialup bulletin boards--without a winner. That's why this system lets the user choose.

    • Setting Default Post Display: to Flat gives a more Motet-like view of the posts. Every post is listed, in order by when it was posted, in one long string.

    • Setting it to Threaded gives a threaded view that makes it easier to follow lines of thought within a conversation or find the direct responses to a post. This is most useful when you want to sort out the direct answers to questions that are posted, even if the answer comes 30 posts later.

    • To switch temporarily, there are "View Flat" and "View Threaded" buttons at the top and bottom of each page when viewing a topic/thread.

  • Poster Info on top

    • Try setting Default Template: to "default; post information on top" to move the poster's information to the top of each post, instead of the side. The page is longer, but it gives a wider view of the post.

  • Show Users' Icons

    • To avoid displaying the icons (also called avatars) that other users have set in their profiles, set Show other users' icons: to No

  • View Users' Signatures

    • To make the page shorter, you can tell the Speakeasy not to display other users' signatures. To do that set View users' signatures: to No
