A couple of questions	Can't Post

Hi,

I'm glad to see the forum is back up.

1. I saw that you have kept an archive of old posts. Are these threads "postable"? That is, can I post to them to continue a discussion, or am I supposed to start over in the new are? (I hope my question made some sense).

2. If not, I see that there are many fewer categories of posting topics now than there were before. Given that this new software actually makes it possible to keep track of threads, I can see why you might have limited the number of topics. Do you have any plans to expand the thread topics?

I know I had another question, but I guess I'll ask it later!

My question: why the misnomer "business of writing" when not one of the topics listed is about the business of writing, but rather all are about the business of publishing?

The business of writing is about writing: writing novels, short fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction, and other genres; the business of writing is also about the process including character development, plot and conflict, point of view, dialogue, language and usage, the process of revision, responsibilities and expectations of writers, and the writer's life.

You can't reply to them in the archived forums, but you can either copy/paste quotes into a new post in the appropriate forum for the subject or you can paste a link directly to the post in question. For example, this link would take you directly to your post, above. It could just as easily have referred to a post in an archived forum.

You can get the link from the "shortcut" link that appears to the left of the post under the poster's name.

Do you have any plans to expand the thread topics?

I'll leave the details to the moderators, but I would think that reasonable requests would be entertained, provided they don't stray too far from P&W's mission.

Hi Marie. It's good to see you here!

I'm not sure what you mean by "expand the thread topics". Do you mean create more topics? Absolutely and your suggestions about what new topics to open will be extremely helpful. I think we should also start a new thread for feedback on what additional topics we might want to have.

An unrelated question (but I didn't want to open a new thread for it). We used to be able to set up Motet so we would just see the new messages in the topics that interested us (and any new ones). Is there any comparable setting here?

Not really, other than the NEW indicators on the [burgundy]Main Index[/burgundy] page or the [burgundy]Main Index: Category: Forum[/burgundy] view. These indicators show the number of new threads and the number of new posts.

Right now, the closest thing would be either the Watch Thread feature or the Subscribe feature. Watch Thread sends you an e-mail when a new post is added to the thread you're watching. Subscribe allows you to receive a digest of new posts from a selected forum on a daily basis. Both of these features can be managed from the Edit Profile section.

While neither of these is exactly what you're looking for, they might serve the purpose until I can get some coding done. I'm currently working on an easier, more manageable dogear/bookmark feature. After that, I'll look at a hot list-like view.
