Do you a) wait and see what happens? or b) call the school the next day? c) something else?

If c), what?

The answer is B. They want to talk to you.

Um, Andrea? That was my life yesterday. I in fact stared at the phone number. Did not recognize it. Had gotten like three calls from a telemarketer earlier in Ohio, and while this number was not from Ohio, i decided it might be the other part of Ohio I was not familiar with, and had no more desire to speak with aforementioned company representatives. Googled the number. Was not Ohio. Program Director's number. On a Sunday. No Message.

Same list of choices now in my head.

Yikes.

lishamilton,

i don't know, sometimes schools call about missing transcripts or other parts of your application that are incomplete. but it was on a sunday, which sounds promising. personally, if i called back and received bad news i'd be crushed. but on the other hand, good news....

quite a pickle i tell ya.

and Andrea added a "Me too!" which I am assuming (hoping) is an indication that she got an offer as well.

I don't think I really know who either of these Speakesay members is, but my face is falling off with excitement for both of you. Congratulations.

I should add that I'm even more ridiculously, wildly excited than I expected. Ever since I saw Peter Turchi's "Resources for Writers" website a few years back I've wanted to study there.

Still waiting. [In reply to] Can't Post

Has anyone heard from University of Washington regarding their fiction application? It's driving me mad. We have so much in the air right now at our house, waiting on "opportunities." Knowing this would help me get my house in order.

FSU [In reply to] Can't Post

Just wanted to let all who are still waiting on FSU that an acceptance (I'm assuming off the wait list since the first notifications went out in early March). We can probably all expect to be notified one way or the other today. Hopefully.

For those of you who have done this before, is there a magic date when Universities have to notify applicants? I still have not heard yet.

Re: [karinr] Haven't heard yet [In reply to] Can't Post

Ugh, as much as I hate to say this, I don't think there is a magic date to notify applicants. I've heard of applicants being notified of rejections and acceptances as late as July (?!). Someone I know with an MFA in Film was accepted off the wait list in July and started school in August.

Trust me, I'm right there with you. I wrote that post about FSU on Friday and still haven't heard anything from them :( They're one of my top choices and I'd really just like to know either way. My guess is that they're not announcing a wait list and just calling people when they're accepted, which is fine, but I assume they know who they want to reject, so I'd like to know that information. Sigh.

My husband told me that it could be worse. I could be waiting on a reply from them to make a decision between schools. Thanks for your reply. I think I'm going to start a list of low-residency programs.

First post, question. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi everybody. First time posting. I have a question and I think this is the right thread to ask. I'm an undergrad student and I'm applying to mfa programs now. A lot of the schools require a bachelor's degree which I will not have until the spring. What will happen, exactly? Will they wait to get my completed, official transcript and then let me know, sometime after May, if I got in or not? Or will they let me know I got in earlier in the year and it will be contingent on the completion of a bachelor's degree, as in I will have to send them a complete transcript after I graduate. Can anyone help me out? I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: [supermarket] First post, question. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm also graduating in April. I'm applying to a variety of programs (mostly MFA though) and yeah, it's completely fine to apply now if you're trying to get in for Fall 2011. What happens is after you complete your last semester you send them your completed official transcript which proves you have graduated. Of course that's if you're accepted ...hopefully you will be! :)

Hey, guys. I had a question about MFA applications, but I think I maybe posted it on the wrong board. If it's not too much trouble can a few folks check it out? It's the most recent post on the "Application Time" board, posted by PhillProvance. I am now officially SeaMonkey because I like sea monkeys, and for some reason I wasn't able to sign in today.

Phill - I think the reason you haven't received an answer is because there really is no way to answer your question. You're asking people who have nothing to do with the selection process if you have a chance (?!). We haven't even read your writing sample, so how would we know? Even if you were a published badass of a writer, we wouldn't be able to answer that kind of question. Just go for it.

Thanks for the response. Yes, it's true, I guess you would have to read the submission manuscript and you're not in on their selection process. I was just kind of hoping someone would have an idea of the selection process and could buttress my faltering ego a little. Pretty selfish, I know. Sorry. Just I'm going through the jitters with everyone else and kind of want to get into the community for mutual support (I will give support too certainly) because this process kind of does suck and my parents still think I'm wasting my life not having tried to be a lawyer instead.:-P

Ahhhhh, hell, well. I guess like my one friend said, all you can do is wait and see. And this is why I have always hated fishing.:-P

Well Phill, if I can be honest, I thought your other post was extremely self-centered... but also... I completely, completely understand your need for validation, really, I do. As you said, the process is stressfull and a little buttress never hurts... but as kbritten wisely pointed out... there is no way to know, NO WAY AT ALL! Which sucks, of course. Can you imagine how I feel when I am applying from Brazil, being a Brazilian and all, and my Education USA adiveser, the very persons that should be supporting me, tells me I better apply to a Comparative Literature Program because the odds of me getting into a Creative Writing right now are close to zero?? Yeah... so, it is tough, tough tough tough. But we gotta give it a try and hope that it all works ou and ultimetly trust that the manuscript was good enough. But I did take her advice and am applying to Comparative Literatures programs in U. of Texas and UMass. Plus, my application materials are all ready to go!!! Really exciting!!! Best of luck to us all!!!!

I second that. And wow! From Brazil. I do hope you get in. I hope we both do. That would be super cool to meet you I think. Just be like, "Hey, didn't we talk on that board last year?"

Also I'm curious about your pursuing an MFA stateside: Do you write in Portuguese or English primarily? Seems you've got the American colloquial down. Damnedest thing with the U.S. education system: I took nearly a decade of German classes and never had that handle on it. Oh, well, stupid Americans I guess. That's what my parents get for sending me to public school.:-P
