Just got waitlisted at Emerson today - via snail mail. Bostonian here. Also waitlisted at Antioch. Anyone giving up their spot there?

Re: [unsaid78] Waitlists and tiered funding [In reply to] Can't Post

hello unsaid. I too was waitlisted by NYU, today though, for poetry. Did you email the person they provided to us in the email with any questions? I would really love to know how many people are on that list + my position. Is that a reasonable question? What are you doing about all of this?

I emailed him to see if he had any info on funding or teaching...

Hey IrisAnn, I didn't email. I've decided to go elsewhere. I did see that someone else on another blog emailed Zachary and he said he could not tell where people are on the list. I don't know how many people are on the list either.

Is anyone here accepted into the program at the New School for fiction and not going there? I just found out the other day I am wait listed. Just curious what people were thinking, though I have not heard much about acceptances to the New School on here.

15 applications
14 rejections
1 waitlist for NYU (fiction)

Anyone turning down an NYU spot, or know of anyone who is?
Anyone have any idea how many ppl are on that list?

I'm waitlisted at New School too, Noby. I have a feeling there are about forty five thousand people on that waitlist. And I doubt there's any funding available. Bummerwave.

Chess,

How did you find out you were wait listed at NYU. I have heard nothing from them and at this point I may be waiting for a rejection letter, but just wondering.

Mpehn,

You may be right. There program is on the larger side and they may wit list quite a few people. It's one of my top choices though so I am crossing my fingers.

Hollins [In reply to] Can't Post

Just got waitlisted at Hollins for fiction via email. I thought these notifications went out weeks ago, or am I making that up? That brings the official count for Waitlist Madness 2009 up to 5: Hollins, Vandy, FSU, Illinois, and Alabama.

Anyone here know if Hollins is responsive to inquiries about rank on the waitlist? Being on these waitlists is driving me mad, and I just want to know if I have a chance in hell or if I should launch Plan B, which has two steps: 1) move to New Orleans, and 2) be drunk constantly.

Re: [clarabelle] Hollins [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi clarabelle,

At least one spot will open up for fiction at Hollins by next Wednesday, because either a) someone higher up on the list than me will choose a different school, thus freeing up better funding, or b) I will choose the school that has already committed to fully funding me. :) Good luck!

Fat Lady has begun exercising her vocal chords. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm ready for the domino effects of the final decisions to shake things up. It's sad checking back with the speakeasy to see no new posts--it's not over for me! I've got 3 waitlists. Let's go!

I feel your pain, plus one. I've got FOUR waitlists. And, thankfully, one acceptance, but not with as much funding as I need.

Fat lady, sing your sweet, sweet song.

My wait list at UIUC just turned into a rejection; all spots are full. I'm already bound for Florida, so it's cool.

To email or not to email... [In reply to] Can't Post

So, I haven't had any correspondence with my waitlist schools for a few weeks; should I give them a holler? I just want to know that they still kind of like me. See if I still have a shot; how many spots are left. Is this a bad idea? Will I be pestering sleeping dragons?

Re: [fixittuesday] To email or not to email... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it would be perfectly fine to send them a polite email. It could annoy them, but I'd think they would be understanding. I mean, it's April 7th! We have a week to make decisions, and it's hard to do that if we're not fully informed. And frankly, they should be glad that you like them so much that you're waiting on the chance to get into their program. Also, they wait-listed you, which means they really like you. So my vote is email. Of course, they might not reply, since that seems to be the M.O. for lots of programs, but it's worth a shot. Good luck! What particular programs are you waiting on, by the way?

Fixit,

I'm in a similar position - wanting to contact a school again re: my waitlist status, but also not wanting to pester them. I think I've decided to wait until after the holiday and then act. I may even make myself wait until the 14th... we'll see. Good luck to you.

Re: [Mae Fields] To email or not to email... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think I'll do the same, Mae. My urgency kind of stems from one or more of the departments saying that they anticipated some shifting after the 1st...but we all know the 15th is the real D-day. I'm going to sit on my hands for at least a week. It's hard!

Re: [fixittuesday] To email or not to email... [In reply to] Can't Post

I know. For me, this waiting is rougher than the four months I've already waited! At this point, no news is good. It means there's still spots that haven't been confirmed. Also, previous years' threads show people being accepted off waitlists April 15th, 16th, 17th - ish.
