U of Florida - Gainesville [In reply to] Can't Post

Anyone else waitlisted at Florida or is considering turning down an offer? I am curious...

waitlisted at the university of oregon, my top choice. the e-mail was very kind.
so close. soooo close! i don't want to get my hopes up too high, because it's a small program, but boy my fingers are crossed that some folks will decline so i can squeak in.

I think you're better served with having the use of your left arm, especially because you've already got Alabama. And besides, when the MFA is done and gone, you'll start to miss the left arm you sacrificed. And you'll wonder to yoursel, I gave up my left arm for THIS?!?!

Hey All,
Fiction spots will be opening up at UNCG, Arizona, UNH, and George Mason. Just wanted to let those waiting know.

It's kind of you to let people know. I am on some waitlists myself (for poetry). I'm sure the people waiting on spots at the schools you turned down appreciate the information!

Best of luck! M.

Poetry spots will be opening up at UNCG, Hollins, SIUC and on Indiana's waitlist. Good luck to those interested in those programs!

Symmetrical--

Yes, very well. The corn fields certainly have their allure ;)

(I forgot to mention that a poetry spot will also be opening up at VCU.)

Thanks, Eric. I hope I see you in the fall, and let me know if you have any questions about my visit. I found the program and the surrounding areas to be nothing short of amazing (then again, as a New Englander, flat, open spaces are an intoxicating and foreign thing to me!)

congratulations on your decision, sara e.g.! as a waitlistee at illinois, i was selfishly hoping that some of the lucky people who'd received offers would end up turning them down. i'm a bit jealous that you'll be rubbing elbows with brigit pegeen kelly, but best wishes nonetheless!

Re: [artfullyvague] waitlists [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I haven't notified them of my official acceptance yet, but it's pretty much a done deal (I'm still waiting to get in touch with Virginia Tech, which I'm almost sure I'm rejected from, but they were the only school left whose outcome I'm curious about.) I plan on giving Illinois my official "yes" on Monday, even if I haven't heard back from VT yet.

Also, to my knowledge, not everyone has accepted their offers yet, so don't lose hope!!

And thanks, Emily!

Re: [lowercase] U of Florida - Gainesville [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm probably going to remove myself from Florida's waitlist. It's a two-year program and I've been accepted into a three-year program, which I think I'd prefer. I had to rush my undergrad thesis time wise, and I definitely don't want to do that again. I'm a little worried that if I aim for a two-year program I'll end up feeling rushed when it comes time to work on it. I guess that's really just a personal thing. Florida looks like an amazing program, though.

Hi Speculations, I just wanted to let you know (since this is such an important decision!) that unless something has changed, U Florida is a 3 year program:

Maybe you mean Florida State, though---I don't know if they're 2 or 3 years. Congrats on your acceptance and waitlist, and good luck making your decision.

GOD. Am I that braindead? I thought I remembered that from when I was applying, but then I looked over my notes and I wrote it down as a two-year. Epic fail. Thanks for the heads up! I need to re-read everything. I feel like my brain has decomposed in my skull in the past couple of months. I am officially embarrassed.

Ha, don't be embarrassed. I applied to nine schools myself, it's impossible to keep everything straight, especially since this whole process is so frazzling. I have the same kind of brain rot going on : ) Glad to help.
