I have been making my parents check the mail every day at their place religiously too, with the hopes/fears that that might happen. Sorry you had a crappy day, sevenfreckles :(.

Who can do some math on the number of those lucky ducks with multiple acceptances? Number of individudals x number of schools = they can't accept more than one offer = more room for the rest of us?

Re: [AnnaJ] Iowa [In reply to] Can't Post

hehe, thanks y'all. I appreciate the massive beer, even though I tend to drown my sorrows in dark chocolate and tea. ;) I know I'm not the only one getting letters from Iowa and Syracuse today.

There is something kind of sad about family members who get so upset over the rejections. They just can't understand -why- we wouldn't get accepted. At least I know the odds behind it and have had months and months to prepare myself for it. I wanted to give my dad a huge hug even though he's a dozen states away and tell him it would all be fine and that it was too cold in Syracuse anyway.

For me the most frustrating thing is I feel like I've kind of hit a brick wall as far as figuring out how to go forward. I know we've still got a month or so for things to all work out and I'm waiting on 10 schools still, but I'm so ready to go back to school. I live in a really isolated location and I find myself craving some kind of writing community-- something to help me push myself to get better. I don't feel like there would be much of a point in applying again next year unless I find that.

Anna I don't know what those numbers are but inevitably those numbers do create spaces and they are the reason, in part that the notification period goes on until April.

Has not taken me. Lan Samantha Chang couldn't find a place for me amongst the 25 spots. Just waiting to see if I get into Cornell or Brown now.

My girlfriend called with my Iowa rejection and a second later the Brown rejection popped up in my inbox. Two in less than two minutes! Beat that.

i can beat that, potshot! 2 rejections in the mail (cornell and texas), and then in the 3 minutes it took to check the mail, the shitty email from brown came. it was like being gang raped by rejections.

Solidarity, brother (or sister). I've not received the Cornell rejection yet. I'm guessing Syracuse, Cornell rejections on Saturday for me, maybe Monday.

Does each one get easier? These two rejections, while not pleasant, are nowhere near the disappointment levels of the first four. I wish my lesson in learning to live with rejections hadn't cost me a grand, though.

Are the rejections across all genres. Because I applied to Brown...and have not been rejected yet...!

Was it a general rejection or specific to you?

I applied in Fiction. The rejection was specific in that it had my name on it and they told me "Uh, no thanks." Otherwise I've seen nicer ones go out.

Brown says no. 0 for 3 this season, and 0 for 16 overall. Why do I even bother?

Amen! 0 for 2 this time around. Still waiting on UVA (who am I kidding?) and BU (chances are better, but again, who am I kidding?). I expect to emerge from this soul-destroying process with nothing but rejections (also to add to last year's rejections).

A rejection email from Brown. I don't know about the rest of you, but my email said:

Dear Ray,

We read your posts on Speakeasy and based on your sniveling and incorrigible tone therein, we're pretty sure you would NOT fit into this little cozy and collegial thing we got going here in Providence.

Best wishes.

----

The tally so far:

Acceptances: two schools
Rejections: Michigan, Texas, Brown

One remaining.

That hurts Raysen. Ouch. I'm glad they sent out personalized rejections this year though. Here's what mine said:

Dear Mr. Flergenderg,

The only thing funnier than your writing sample is your mistaken belief that you will get into an MFA program--ours or anyone else's. You'd have a better chance of getting in if you farted on a stack of blank paper.

Sincerely,

This is what mine said:

Dear Ms. ------:
We'd like to blindside you by sending you an email that you will casually check when you get home from classes today. Surprise! Sorry we can't admit you to our program, but thanks for your $70 application fee!

Cheers,
Brown
