what genre are you in? Nonfiction
which schools were you accepted to? UNCW and Wyoming, waiting to hear from 9 others.
how long have you been workshopping/writing seriously? 5ish years, on and off. My undergrad degree was in NF writing, but I dabbled in fiction and journalism first, before deciding on a happy medium between the two. It's hard for me to write everyday, I'm pretty sporadic, but it works out - my best stuff comes out under pressure. As an undergrad, I would often be working on an essay mere hours before it was due in class. I'm the same way with revisions. I know most people write much more often, and advocate X hours per day, but that has never worked for me. I believe everyone is different, so I roll with the on/off nature of my ability to sit and write for hours.
Are you published? Not yet.
What did you do to prepare your pieces for your applications? One piece was a 12-page lyric essay that had been workshopped for a year, and I made a few minor edits to that. The other was brand new, and I did most of the writing/revising nonstop in the week before I sent out my applications.
Were you an active part of the writers' networking communities/did you meet influential people at the schools before the apps? No, all of the programs I applied to are far away and I haven't visited any of them.
