I'm still beating you rather handily in terms of rejections...I got three more today, Alabama, George Mason, and Arizona...all three were ones that I was banking for waitlists...I guess no news is not always good news after all;)

Alabama definately hurt the worst out of those three...i liked their program a lot...wasn't too excited about the state though.

So now I'm at 50% rejections with 8 down and 8 to go...today was a rough one on the MFA front and my confidence is at an all time low...the current tally follows.

So, as of right now, my Michener web page has yet to be updated, and my status on the U Mass Amherst page has yet to change from "applied." I know my last name starts with a Z, but this is getting ridiculous.

stellalovers, no word on dough yet. Actually, I haven't received my letter yet (I don't think) either. I'm basing my acceptance on the tuition deposit site saying congrats,etc...playing with the Gods on that one. In fact, I live in Ohio for my MA degree but am in Boston for Break right now (grew up here) and I called monday morning to see if they could give me the thumbs up over the phone so I could go visit the campus, and they refused! So I don't know...I'm hoping for money though. I don't want to pay for this degree, but then again who does? I'm wanted by an MFA program at 22 though, so how can I say no to that? What's another 40 grand or so in loans between friends...good luck and keep me updated through private messages if you hear anything.

Just got back from the post office and found a rejection from Colorado State. That one hurt I have to say. I'm an undergrad now and the writing program consistently lands people in that program, at least for poetry. And I was hoping to be the first to break in for fiction but no such luck. In slightly better news I got waitlisted at American University. But since I've already been accepted to Pitt, and neither really offer decent funding, I think I'll be attending Pitt most likely. Here's my new tally:

I declined Pitt's offer because I was given a better offer (tuition waiver + stipend) from another program. Pitt did not offer me any funding and I don't want to go into debt for an MFA.

What genre are you in?

I'm 90% sure that I'm going to be at Florida next fall. Really, the only school that would sway me at this point is Virginia, and it sounds like they've started accepting people already. hiya blair -

i'm in nonfiction. pitt didn't offer me funding but i'd be paying instate tution. still, the other best offer i have is from the new school in new york... even though NYC cost of living is higher, I think TNS would come out to be cheaper, given that they're offering me a small amount of funding and that the new school's program is 2 years long and Pitt's is three years long. If you factor in the opportunity cost of another year spent in school as opposed to working full time, TNS comes out way ahead...

Even so I'd still have to go into debt which I don't really want to do. This is my first year applying to MFA's and I think I should have put more thought into it. I applied to programs that "sounded good" without doing adequate research into their funding offerings. So I'm still mulling over whether I should accept any of these offers, or take another year, work on my writing, and redo applications at schools that offer more (or perhaps get better offers from big-name schools thanks to improvements in my writing...)

I dunno. Where are you going instead of Pitt?

Sorry if I'm replying to the wrong thread (I'm new here), but has anyone else applied to any Dramatic Writing or Playwriting MFA programs? I haven't been able to find info on acceptances/rejections anywhere and I'm going crazy waiting to hear!

Hey all - the UNH website says "waiting for final dean approval" for my application- and I know some have received acceptances via this website... do you think this means I've been accepted by the department? Has anyone received official offers from UNH, by the way? All I've seen is website notices...

Current tally: Accepted to George Mason, pending teaching assistant interview... anyone else accepted there whose applying for a TA? Also is there anyone planning on going to the accepted student's open house? I'm planning to...

Several acceptance calls from NYU today (3/13) have been reported at the MFA Acceptances blog. So it looks like all hope is not lost yet for the 900+ waiting to hear. Those who insisted last week that it was too soon to conclude defeat were right.

All right, I'm assuming that this - my first year applying - I will get rejected from everywhere. I've heard that story a lot from others.

So far:

Rejected - Cornell, Syracuse, Michener
Assumed Rejection - Minnesota, Alabama
Soon to be rejected - Brown, Arkansa

I'm in a workshop at the 92nd street Y now that I'm liking, working on new peices, new ideas, new thoughts, and new reccomenders. This is entering my fifth year having taken the GRE, so I gotta get in this year or take the dreaded test again. I did, however, learn from the process as cliched as that seems and have a whole new list of schools to look into.

Thanks for the memories, I'll still hold a little hope and light a candle for the rest of us in limbo.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the "decision" on University of Illinois-Chicago's online application has started to change from "pending manual request" to an actual decision.

Mine currently reads "deny." C'est la vie.

Man, I thought after five rejections I would be tired of playing the Waiting Game.

....And I'm not.

Good News! No rejections today by noon (which means I haven't received the mail yet)!
Bad News! No acceptances today...
Good News! Virginia status still says "pending"!
Bad News! Virginia status still says "pending" and others have been accepted.
Good News! I have nine schools that could still potentially call/email/mail me acceptances!
Bad News! People have heard from several of them already which means the chances are getting slimmer.
Good News! No one has heard from UCI yet! (Bad news! I thought no one had heard from Notre Dame)
Bad News! No one, including me, has heard from UCI yet.
Good News! I have all this free time on my hands to do all that stuff I wanted to do as an undergrad but never had time to do.
Bad News! I have all this free time on my hands to worry, pace, obsessively check my email and website status...

Did you know they make a device that you can stick in your mailbox and it notifies you when the mail arrives?
Bad News: I'm considering buying one because I hate this Waiting Game.
And yet I'm still not tired of it.

Hmm, I just checked my Michener Center status page for the zillionth time and it has finally changed. The line "Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review." was just added this afternoon. I can't help reading into this. I thought that they were all done with acceptances, but why would they just forward my application if that's true. Why wouldn't they just reject me. Hmm. Very curious. This could just mean that it will very soon say rejected but at least I get to be excited for a little bit longer.

Also, I just got my Hollins rejection today. I wasn't really surprised... but I did really like Hollins. Oh well. At least it was on nice paper, even if it was a very short note. So far I have six rejections and five in limbo. And I'm starting to look into some different programs for next year.
