Re: [Clench Million] Waitlisted [In reply to] Can't Post

Argh! I almost wish I hadn't discovered these forums becasue I applied to 10 programs and haven't heard a thing so far for any of them. I've been seeing on the other threads that some of the places I applied have started notifying so now, of course, I'm having a panic attack because I've convinced myself that I haven't been accepted anywhere. This waiting game is so cruel.

WAITLISTED AT MCNEESE!! No funding, but I'm just happy to have something positive!!! I will not attend without funding, so even if I got accepted, I wouldn't be able to go. BUT YAY FOR POSITIVE NEWS!

Thanks guys! Gena, I think "yay kay bay" would make a great rap song (you know, like that really annoying song "hey bay bay") ;)

Kbritten - I am so happy for you! I wish it was an acceptance instead of a waitlist, but it could easily turn into one. Now you just have to visualize Florida putting your application in the accepted pile...

Re: [kbritten] Waitlisted [In reply to] Can't Post

That's great, kbritten!

I didn't think McNeese offered unfunded spots. From what I experienced with them last year and what I've heard around, they're supposed to be fully-funded. Although, I suppose something could have changed. Amy Fleury did tell me that they had more positions available this year than they have in the past, so maybe that's because they've added some unfunded spots?

Did they say for certain that you won't get funding if accepted off the waitlist?

Congrats again, friend!

Re: [NickMcRae] Waitlisted [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks Nick, and RIDICULOUS CONGRATS to your success this year, holy mackerel!! Ole Miss is a great program, as are the other billion programs you've been accepted to ;)

I think I read the email wrong, but I did email the director at McNeese just to clarify. I think what he meant was that since I'm on a wait list, he doesn't currently have a teaching assistantship to offer, but if I was admitted, I would receive one. I'm not 100% sure though.

If I have the potential for funding, I'll definitely wait. If I don't though, I'll have to turn the offer down :( We'll see, it's a really cool program that I have a lot of respect for. I've seen some good work come out of that program too. We'll just have to see :)

To call or not to call? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey all-- Just a question about protocol, not a new waitlist announcement (sorry)-- I got onto Bama's fiction waitlist somehow and emailed the program assistant (to whom I was directed in the waitlist email for answers) some of the usual questions (how many are on the waitlist? are we ranked? could I know my rank? etc) on Sunday. I haven't heard back. Should I call, email again, or wait? It is not essential that I know right now, per se, though it would be helpful to know. And gosh darnit, I'm curious! But I wouldn't want to be a bother. Opinions?

waitlist torture [In reply to] Can't Post

waitlisted at iowa NWP and wyoming. accepted at alaska-fairbanks. seven schools to go. this is more luck than i had expected, and i am thankful, though now i am anxious cuz what i thought would come to an end april 15 might go on ad infinitum. when do waitlistees typically get notified? my iowa contact said if a spot opens up, it might not be until summer. that assumes, however, that i turn down current and (possible) future acceptances in favor of a gamble on iowa. ooh, the drama gets ramped up this week. good luck, all!

UNCW - Any thoughts? [In reply to] Can't Post

I just received an email from UNCW that I was waitlisted for the NF program. I have seen a few not so nice things posted about UNCW recently... can anyone give me their thoughts? I know I haven't been accepted, but I thought I would get a leg up and get some answers now... why are there so many negative things being said about UNCW in the "I'm In!" thread?

I just received a similar email. The criticism of UNCW stems from reports (two yrs running) that UNCW has offered "exploding funding" to new acceptees, meaning they aren't adhering to the April 15 deadline.

U of Florida [In reply to] Can't Post

Waitlisted at U of Florida in poetry. About to choke. They are my number one pick, and while I am ECSTATIC to be "in the running," I realize I might be waiting until April 14 to hear if I've got a spot. That means about 4 other schools (my acceptances) will be waiting on them, too... by proxy.

This feels so wonderful and so killer all at once. I want to cry, but not happy tears.

AH! Congrats! UF! I'm fiction, but I would cry if I got accepted there. Are you Rugby Toy on the MFA blog, btw???

Oh, and did they call you or email you??

They emailed. David Leavitt sent out a mass email for waitlisters. I don't know if acceptances have been sent/called out yet -- I'm surprised that I'm the only one on any of these blogs to have posted news of it thus far.

Yes, I'm RugbyToy. I was advised to make myself scarce on the MFA blog after the UNCW drama. But I'm still around in spirit.

Nobody's heard anything on fiction at Florida then? I applied. Just waiting.
An opinion on the application process: Why is it so complicated and stretched out? I applied to law schools this year and it was about as streamlined as it could possibly be. I've heard from everyone and they are very clear about everything they do. Maybe that's just lawyers, not writers. It just seems like it could be a lot more coherent and expedient.

To anyone else also applying to law school: What do you think? I want so badly to be able to do the MFA over law school, but goodness the decision is a tough one.

Looks like they have yet to make fiction decisions -- again, this year they were swamped with a record number of fiction writers and they're shooting for a March 15 notification date. That's all the info I have. I think the waitlist tonight was JUST for poetry, so don't get down :)

Oooo! I know, right? Oh, man ... if I only had a list of names, I would be contactin' all them mo fos right now, be all like: Where is Florida on your list right now? please, please ... TELL ME you were accepted into Michener!

But, no; they are a mystery. They're either blogosphere lurkers or uninterested in the blogosphere and message-board-o-sphere altogether. They're ghosts. And they're haunting me!

Does anyone know what the deal is with the IWW waitlist? Apparently I am on it and they will let me know by April 15th, but I was curious if anyone actually gets in this way.

Hi Pirate,

When did your letter arrive?

Hans Landa: You'll be shot for this!
Aldo Raine: Nah, I don't think so. More like chewed out. I've been chewed out before.
