Re: [stacylynn] LSU [In reply to] Can't Post

I found out I'm in the second-round of waitlists at UC Davis.
So this is the final tally:

Brown - rejected
Iowa - rejected
Massachusetts - accepted w/ fellowship
Minnesota - rejected
Montana - rejected
Syracuse - rejected
Texas/Michener - rejected
UC Davis - waitlist
Wisconsin - waitlist

Re: Don't Lose Hope [In reply to] Can't Post

Within three days I went from waitlist limbo to choosing between funded offers at Illinois and Western Michigan (and Ohio State gave me the impression I'd be hearing something very soon). Don't lose hope, people really, truly do get off waitlists. And just think, I was in the middle to lower part of Illinois waitlist and that's where I'm going next year!

Re: [Raignn] Don't Lose Hope [In reply to] Can't Post

Congrats, Raignn! I'm really happy for you! I've taken your message of hope to heart...

But I have to let this out...

AAAAARRGGGHHHH that there is so much news about EVERY SCHOOL BUT JHU!!! Nobody's said a peep about it lately! All I know is, at least three of the ten waitlisters have turned down their spot on the list. I'm just short of foaming at the mouth.

Also, my boyfriend just told me that he might not come with me to Baltimore. But I still want to go. Long distance relationships are no fun--but I suppose it might save our relationship if we're not in close quarters during my first year of grad school. I'll probably be a busy, scary person to wake up to every day. And I don't want to wait another year. I want to start right away. As much as I could use a break from school, as much as I would probably enjoy another chance to choose which schools to apply to and which stories to send, I would much rather begin my grad school career Fall '08.

Johns Hopkins, please don't fail me... :(

Congratulations, Raignn! That's great news. Hopefully my waitlist situation will turn out as positively as yours.

You may already have plenty of information about Champaign-Urbana already, but PM if you have any questions - I spent the past year there and got to know some of the fiction faculty pretty well, though I don't know too much about the poetry sector. I also loved the town and think you'll have a great time there!

Re: [miss.modular] Syracuse wait list [In reply to] Can't Post

My two cents as somebody having been through this - I think it's pretty close to impossible for everything to be finalized by April 15, especially at schools where funding is unclear until after that date. I was in at a few schools last year and waitlisted at my top choices and as April 15 got closer, I felt like I needed to make a decision so accepted one offer, then heard that I'd gotten into my top choice on April 13 - last minute, yes, but I didn't think twice about reneging on my acceptance, and didn't get in any 'hot water' - in fact, the program made it sound like it happened all the time and was not a huge deal, and I'm sure given the program there were plenty of happy people willing to take my slot even on or after April 15. I didn't turn down any of my acceptances (except for the obvious 'safety' schools) until the deadline, so I would assume that spots opened post April 15 for people at those schools - I don't see any other way to do it, given how important a decision grad school is.

Sweet. Hope springs eternal, ha ha. And I guess the Novena my dad said for me to get into Notre Dame might not hurt :)

Rutgers-Newark Waitlist [In reply to] Can't Post

Does anybody know anything about the Rutgers-Newark waitlist? I'm on it for fiction, and I don't know if they tell you your number or how many people they waitlisted.

Also, did anybody who got waitlisted or accepted decide not to go?

just trying to get some closure.

thanks.

I agree exactly: "Wow!"

I feel like I want to say "congrats!" but I guess I'll just redirect it to whichever program you are headed to.

Good luck!

I just accepted at Michigan. There will be a spot opening up at Wisconsin, and one less name on the waitlist at Houston.

Good luck everybody - may all your dreams come true!!!

Notre Dame waitlist [In reply to] Can't Post

In case anyone is interested...

I called Notre Dame yesterday, and Coleen said that two of the five fiction candidates had accepted offers. Then, she said I'm technically on a list ahead of the actual waitlist, but there are still eight people ahead of me.

So, it's not sounding very promising, at least for me. I'm about to get on the phone with the state of Missouri to figure out what I have to do in order to renew my K-12 teaching certificate for next year.

Re: [sonata7] IU waitlist [In reply to] Can't Post

Completely new to P&W (any of these sites, really), and happy/relieved to be here.

Accepted: George Mason (nonfiction), Pittsburgh (nonfiction), Pittsburgh (poetry), The New School (nonfiction)
Waitlisted: Michigan (poetry, next in line), Syracuse (poetry), UC-Davis (nonfiction), UC-Irvine (poetry, second in line), Virginia Tech (poetry).
Rejected: Brown (poetry), Cornell (poetry), Hollins (nonfiction), NYU (poetry)

None of my accepted schools gave me funding, which I need in order to attend a program (I'm an Adjunct; I make 20k/yr as it is...). Pitt seems *amazing,* but the idea of spending 70k... Still, I visited the three and have researched funding at them extensively (esp. Pitt) and am more than happy to share what I've found if anyone has particularly questions.

If you're sitting on an acceptance for one of the above schools, please let me know what form of bribery works best for you. Seriously though, it would mean the world to me--and by the world, I mean the ability to attend an MFA Program.

If not, perhaps we can all play this game again next year? I think it will be a lot more fun now that I actually understand how it's played. And look out Waitlisted at Mason, Pitt and TNS--I'm sure that call will be an amazing one to receive. :)

I just got a call today letting me know I'm in for fiction. I turned them down though so hopefully you'll be getting a call.
