I'm in for poetry today at UNCG. Heard via email, waiting for the official letter in the mail.

What a day indeed!

Congrats to you poets! I'm officially jealous of you peeps, why do I carry this burden to write fiction (and wait, and wait, and wait, and worry).

you know what's funny? Last year, it seemed like all the fiction people were notified before the poets. Maybe they just choose to go through the genre stacks in opposite order every other year :)

Re: [reality writes] I'M IN! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the props y'all.

I think fiction takes longer since there are generally more applicants and writing samples are also much longer. As far as Florida is concerned, William Logan told me they had a real banner year this year for applications...apparently they just about doubled! He said Team Fiction was still several weeks away from notifying any of their prospectives though.

I have a tough choice now: OSU vs. Florida

I wonder what else is going to come my way. Either way, this process is turning out to be a real surprise as each day goes by...

Grad school apps are up across the board, anywhere from 25-200% (!) depending on the program, according to the folks in our grad school. When the economy goes down, app numbers always rise.

I got into UMN for fiction!
Julie Schumacher just called me and I pretty much babbled nervously about how excited I was the whole time.
She said there's a recruitment weekend coming up in March to visit campus and meet the other students.
Good luck to everyone waiting!!!

Congrats!!! Big time congrats!!! Minnesota is one of my top top choices. Hoping to hear soon... *crosses every appendage possible*

Well done. Did she mention anything about calling everyone, or anything else that could be of use to all us hopefuls?

She said something about having left a voicemail for someone before she called me. And she said she only calls the admits, and someone else calls the waitlisters....and that she's leaving town tomorrow so she had to make calls today. But UMN called a fiction person several weeks back, so their process seems kind of fluid..I wouldn't give up hope!

An Iowa acceptance in fiction was just reported on TSE. I didn't apply there, but I still feel the weight of it. Good luck to all.

Also, for those who are curious, the UNC Greensboro blog has a space for applicant questions now.

Thanks! You know this whole MFA world is crazy when you tell your mother "ok mom, I have to get off the phone and notify everyone on the MFA boards. They understand this joy."

Here's hoping this week is fruitful for everyone...

Hi Symmetrical--

Thanks! It was postmarked on the 12th and I received it today. I'm actually in Boston, so I guess that, and the holiday weekend, may explain the delay. I've never been to the Urbana area, so if anyone has, I'm all ears.
