Can't help but wonder, though, who turned down Michener?

I mean, I know there are other equally excellent programs out there.

I'd just like to know which was the one somebody picked over UT.

Hey! I got in to UNLV too. Fiction. I thought of this school as a wild card in my list, but now I'm grateful. Almost every other school has rejected me. At least UVA said I made several cuts, and I'm still waiting to hear from Greensboro. But I think UNLV fits my interests.

How were you contacted by UNLV? I'm still waiting on them, but I'm already guessing I'm out of luck. Congrats to those who were accepted, though! It looks like a really great program.

Thanks. Now that decision time is looming, I am starting to get freaked out. I visited Florida last week and I'll visit the Michener Center next week. I don't feel like I can make a decision without visiting. I'm obsessed with making some sort of "optimal" decision, even though that probably isn't possible when choosing between two good programs.

I do feel very lucky right now, especially as 10 out of 13 schools rejected me. I did not think I would get this far.

UNLV was my wild card, too. I thought, there's no way they're going to accept some Mississippi girl. So far, they're my only acceptance. I'm sort of freaking out I'm so excited.

Congrats on the acceptance to UNLV! I moved out of Las Vegas two years ago and miss it. It's an interesting city to live in, even for non-gamblers. Good hiking, camping, climbing, shopping, eating, and general entertainment. For what it's worth, if there is something you want to see/do/eat/etc, you can find it in Vegas or, at most, within a 3ish hour drive.

On top of it all, I found loads to write about while living there - never a dull moment or lack of character inspirations!

I remember at some point a month or so ago someone posted this really handy list of questions you should ask once you've been admitted (about funding, time to write, etc). I can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know what thread it lives in?

There's something akin to that on Tom Kealy's (sp?) blog. It was a fairly recent post too, so it should not be hard to find. Felcidades on the un-waitlisting, by the way.

Congrats, future Bronco-to-be. Western was where I did my undergrad, many moons ago. Enjoy the 'zoo, and hoist a Guiness at the Pilsen Klub in Waldo's cellar for me.

I just heard via email from UNCW and they've extended me an offer! No funding or TA-ship, like I had hoped, but I'm just so excited to have gotten in somewhere! How amazing! I'll think about all of that later! After all this waiting, now is the time to feel the goodness in this and just bask.

I know that Utah started to let PhD creative writing folks know on Friday February 8 by phone (I remember reports of poetry and fiction). I don't know if there is much difference in when they let PhD and MFA applicants know, but I do know that some people have heard already.

Hey dunnkc! I was just thinking about you, since it sounded like you were pretty sure you were going there too. I am in fiction. I am 99.9% sure I am going. And just freaking out about the fact that I'd have to submit a workshop piece by April 23.

Yes, April 23 is soon, but the acceptance packet says that incoming students can submit something from the application, which is what I may do. I haven't decided yet, but I need to make up my mind ASAP.

Keep me posted on your decision...I hope you decide to go!

So I was just out on my bicycle intending to get some long overdue (cause I'm too preoccupied checking this board, the mail, my email) errands done and when I got to stop #1 on my list I dropped my key to my (expensive) bike lock down a subway grate. I had no choice but to return home. Oh well, I thought, I got nothing accomplished but wouldn't it be funny if I had some good news waiting for me....

Nothing in the mail, no voicemails, but in my spam folder an email from Jackson Taylor of the New School saying he'd been trying to get in touch with me with good news!

(hopefully not a wait list...)
