Hey dickenscratch,

Just out of curiosity, when you got the call from Arkansas, did it come up as "unknown" on the caller ID or as the NW Arkansas area code (479)? I'm still waiting to here from them, and it's driving me nuts. I'm expecting bad news, but I barely missed a call from "unknown" this morning. They didn't leave a message. I'm trying not to get my hopes up. Thanks, Ryan

It looks very likely that I will be attending the CSU program in the fall. Where are you leaning?

Still waiting to hear about funding from CSU, as well as UNCG - plus wait lists at Virginia and Vanderbilt. So it might be a week or two before I can make up my mind for sure. Has CSU offered you funding yet?

Hey - I've been a lurker as well, and I've also been accepted at Wichita State - so we've got a couple of things in common. I've been in contact with the program director - Darren DeFrain. He's been really helpful in answering my questions. I know the program is not top tier by any means, but it is one of the oldest in the country, so that's something. I've also been in contact with a couple of the students in the program, and they love it. I asked around the writing profs where I got my MA and they had all heard good things about WSU.
Also, I'm from KC and I'd been to Wichita many times when I was younger, but my fiance and I went down there two weekends ago, and it seems to have changed - for the better. It is a pretty big city - half a million people - so there is plenty to do and see. From what I've been told, it is best to stay on the northeast side of town, but not necessarily near the campus (which happens to be in the NE part of town). Anyway, I hope this helps.

Funny how things work out. I'd picked up an LSAT practice book and was all geared up to apply for law school for fall of '09, and I got two offers out of the blue!

I got an acceptance letter in Fiction from San Diego State on Monday, and a call tonight from Warren Wilson to let me know that I'm in!

After four rejections, I am pretty excited. Still haven't heard from UC-Irvine or Houston, but whatever happens, I'm happy.

By the way, I'm probably going to Warren Wilson, so anybody on a waitlist at San Diego State -- a spot will definitely be opening up in the next few days.

Good luck with making those final decisions!

I'm a fiction writer. I'm very excited about Warren Wilson. Tonight I told Pete Turchi of WW that I had another offer that I just received recently and that I had to weigh my options first, but I guess I'm just playing coy. I'm pretty sure that's where I'll end up, barring a miraculous, last-minute acceptance from Houston.

I just realized that I went to Asheville as a kid to see the Biltmore, but I barely remember it. It looks beautiful in the pictures on WW's web site.

Still waiting on funding too. I'm in state though, so its not a huge concern. I called today to try and find something out but I didn't get a hold of anyone.

Hey dunnkc--do you have a sense of whether they've finished doing all of their fiction acceptances yet? Did he mention anything about that? One of my programs is asking me to make a decision ASAP, but I'm still holding out for WW...

Not sure... he didn't mention whether they'd finished notifying or not. They would like me to make a decision pretty quickly, so maybe they are planning on contacting another round of acceptances if some people decline. I know he said that they would send my acceptance info to financial aid by today or Thursday. I don't know if that means just mine, or everyone's, like they have the complete list. I would call, if other schools are putting pressure on you. I'm planning to call my last two schools that I haven't heard from by Friday, if nothing comes in the mail this week. I'd like to give WW my decision soon, as I am pretty excited about the program.

Aaron Shurin called me this afternoon and told me I had been admitted to their MFA program for non-fiction!! And I got an $8,000 fellowship, too!!!! :) Best of luck to everyone!!!

Unfortunately I can't answer your question, but I was wondering when you were notified. (Congratulations btw!!) From hanging around here I know phone calls from Bennington started Monday but I wasn't sure if there were any more notifications beyond that.

I don't know about deferring admission at Bennington, but the asst. director has been very helpful so far, and I've asked a billion questions.

Bug60, I e-mailed this question to Bennington about a year ago. The answer: at that time, at least, they didn't allow you to defer. I certainly hope the policy is different now. Congrats on your acceptance.

Bowling Green [In reply to]	Can't Post

I just got accepted through email to Bowling Green for Fiction, with TAship!! (I had found out before that I was number one on the waitlist; I'm still not sure if I was only on the waitlist because of a missing transcript, and now that they've received it they were able to accept me? Not that it really matters at this point).

I'm very happy! Now I will probably be choosing between Bowling Green and American, depending on the financial aid I may get from American. (I probably won't wait to hear from Alabama's or Old Dominion's waitlist, because I really have no idea where I am on either of those waitlists).

Here's my problem--I'm leaning towards Bowling Green, but my boyfriend might be moving with me, and the job opportunities for his field (publishing; he's the editor of a medical journal) seem to be MUCH better in the DC area. So I'm sort of torn. Does anyone know what the job market is like in Bowling Green or nearby for the publishing field?

In for Children's/YA Fiction!

The letter was dated March 12 and they sent it to my permanent address, but I'm still at college, living on campus! I thought they'd notify me by phone or email.

Anyway, the letter said I had to reply by March 26. Whoops! I called and left a message, so hopefully they'll call back.

The only reason I even got the letter was because I came home for Spring Break. Because I didn't expect a reply from them until next week, I hadn't told my family to keep an eye out for any admissions packages. Oh dear ...

Still haven't heard from Hamline or Pine Manor, but Vermont is my top choice.

Speaking of giving others hope - I just declined the Rose Fellowship at Texas State (in favor of the University of Arizona) so someone out there who is in need of $45,000 might be receiving a phone call from Tom Grimes (and Tim O'Brien, who called me last Saturday morning, to my delight - I almost wet myself). The program, from what I know of it, is up and coming and has the money to bring in some good writers. Best of luck to everyone!
