Thanks ersatz! Honestly, Wisconsin is my top pick but with the wait list, who knows. Would you mind sharing what you know about SDSU? I applied there on a whim.

CCA [In reply to] Can't Post

I am in at CCA for nonfiction. Does anyone know how it compares to Mills? (I quit asking about OTIS, nobody knows anything about it). I visitied Otis and it's v. small but is impressive. You would get your money's worth there as far attention and student to faculty ratio goes.

Re: [sevenwrite] USF [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks everyone. :)

This feels pretty good. San Francisco is my ideal place to live. I'm a little weary about the money, but I refuse to make money the deciding factor. I think I'm a point where it's ok to take on some debt and I definitely do not want to either go through the application process again or miss out on the opportunity to move to SF to become a writer.

Hey, sevenwrite, are you moving to SF or do you already live there? I'll send you a PM, so as not to derail the thread.

Re: [fesler] Washington [In reply to] Can't Post

Sunday 16 March - just got a call from Univeristy of Washington (poetry) - I'm in, and on cloud nine!
After several yrs. of rejections - I finally made it - with funding.
Good luck to all, stick with it.

I'm in, what now? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm in at:
SIUC, with good funding via a TA
U of Maryland - haven't yet told me what funding will be
U of Arkansas - TA, fellowship, and tuition waiver

Waitlisted at Vanderbilt and McNeese (I've ruled out McNeese)

Still have to hear from
Brown
UNCG
Montana
U of Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
Colorado State

So, supposing that I don't get into any more than the 3 I'm now in, anyone got any advice? Arkansas looks to me like the best program, but it's a four-year program in a town I've never been to. SIUC is close by where I now live, but I don't much like the town of Carbondale. Maryland (who hasn't yet said anything about funding) is basically in Washington D.C., a town I'm not real excited about living in either.

I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and go to Arkansas. I figure that if it turns out to completely suck after the first year I can re-apply to some 2 year programs, and no huge harm done.

Thoughts on SIUC vs. Maryland vs. Arkansas?

Arkansas by a mile...great funding, four years to write (!), and strong faculty and alumni. Heard nothing but good about it, and you'll be hitting a program in the upswing. Fayetteville ain't Manhattan, but it's a good town.

Wait til you hear from Brown and UVA, though. Plenty of time between now and April 15th.

I received my poetry acceptance today, by mail (I'm in Iowa). A different genre, I know, but I'm guessing the fiction acceptances probably go out around the same time. Sorry if this isn't very helpful info. I guess you could always call and ask.

Hot shit! Felicidades! Poetry or fiction? I figure I'm out of the race now, but that's fine. Texas State and UT are both fine by me. It seems I'm destined for the Austin area.

Fiction.

I don't know a single person who doesn't love Austin; it's one of the most unpretentiously fun places I've been. And the UT campus is absolutely beautiful.

Sweet. I know Houston doesn't have quite the same vibe as Austin, but it's easily as awesome in its own way. There's certainly some excellent Mexican food and the various museums always have great exhibits, especially the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Natural Science. I bet you'll like it there if you end up going.

Re: [pensive] I'M IN! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Pensive,

I did get offered some level of funding at most of my other schools. Most recently Iowa has offered me a TAship, which in a lot of ways cinches the deal. The program at Sarah Lawrence seems truly wonderful, though, so I am still sort of on the fence. Maybe I should buy a few lottery tickets and hold out for a bit?

What about you? Have you decided either way? You are in fiction, right?
