Re: [kbritten] Chatham Acceptance [In reply to] Can't Post

Someone posted an acceptance to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in poetry, too. I'm happy for them. Really. Time to go sit in the corner.

How do you know? How were they notified?

Just a reminder to everyone: simply because you don't get a phone call from someone at your dream school the same day as someone else reports an acceptance via phone from said dream school does not mean you have been rejected. If you check out Seth's database, you'll see that schools often space their calls out over several days.

In short: don't panic.

I'm writing in response to the Indiana University notifications. Where is this news coming from? Not panicking, just curious about another source. It isn't listed on Seth's database.

Am I crazy? The most recent mailbag is the 29th, and it says nothing about Indiana acceptances. Must be missing something.

Hi Guys. So, couple minutes ago my home phone rings (and since I gave programs my cell number, I wasn't expecting anything). But then it someone asking . . . "Is this so and so?" And I'm like....OMG, yeah....it was Indiana University! I got in for Fiction. I'm so happy right now. I can't say this enough, I'm really glad I have this community to share this with and I can't wait to hear the other acceptances as they roll in. (Off to the mall to by some welfare wine)

I just got a voicemail from Samrat Upadhyay at Indiana university extending an offer for fiction. I squealed in the gym locker room and people looked at me.

They're in the 1/29 mailbag, on the page starting with message 801. (As of this writing, the page has messages 801-986).

They're also on Seth's now as well. At least--one is for sure.

I wouldn't panic about Indiana yet if anyone applied in fiction. They seem to accept 1-2 early-early in February, and the rest of the acceptances roll in around first-week March. It's not based on who they like the most either (they have a couple of reduced teaching load offers, I think?), probably just the person they agreed on the quickest. This is from personal experience applying there 3 years ago; don't think it had changed till last year.

Thank you, Prosaic. Your news has spread to the MFA Handbook blogs. Your handle is being read "prozac" by many antsy writers... ahem... myself included.

Good to know!

I would also love to see more things happening now...if I don't get to hear anything from schools (except for George Mason telling me that all of my things are in order), then I'd love to live vicariously through others as they do!

Memphis [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm in at Memphis!

I've been calling schools to find out if one of my recommenders ever submitted a letter and when I called them, the woman said "well we have one from Essbaum and O'Higgins, no others. But you've been accepted!"

Great to see all of the good news on here.
I have some myself: I just found out that I made the wait-list at Minnesota’s program via e-mail.
