Re: [germericanqt] I'M IN! [In reply to] Can't Post

LSU has letters out:

Those accepted/rejected by LSU:

Did you get in?

Was it a big or small envelope?

Did it say how many applied?

does it say if the 16,500 is all for you to live on or if you have to pay fees out of it?

Re: [biffturdlington] I'M IN! [In reply to] Can't Post

I know this is the "I'm In" section, but to answer your question, I got a rejection letter in the mail yesterday from LSU, just a regular business-sized, white envelope. It said there was an unprecedented number of excellent applicants (paraphrasing here), but it didn't say the number of applicants, I don't think.

What about the acceptance letters? Big envelope or small?

WWU [In reply to] Can't Post

I just posted this over at the MFA blog, but I received an email at around 6:30 accepting me into Western Washington's MA in Creative Writing. Very strange form email with almost no information from the graduate school. I know I should be thrilled-- this is my first offer after two years of applying-- but it seems extremely unreal. And with no information at all about funding... I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm almost scared to tell anyone. Maybe it just needs to sink in. Or maybe I should email the department... I don't know! :)

I guess I should assume that you applied to the program. If not, then that is frikkin' strange. Also, make sure it's not the Sierra Leone or Nigerian branch of Western Washington U. My inbox is full of spam from those two countries.

In any event, congratulations!

And, of course, there's the whole debate about MA vs. MFA, which I won't get into.

Re: [Raysen] WWU [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the well wishes. The acceptance email really didn't contain a lot of information, but I'm sure it's from the school I applied to in Bellingham, WA. It was just odd because it it was more or less a form email sent to everyone the graduate school accepted and it didn't mention anything specific at all. I suppose I would hope the department would get in touch with me pretty soon. I sent out an email shortly after getting the email from the grad school.

And yeah, the whole MA/MFA is a pretty loaded issue. I'm not sure how I feel about it. For me, the MA would be something I would do to prepare myself for the MFA. I was already seriously considering a Phd after the MFA. This kind of throws everything up in the air. That's a lot of school. This was the only MA I applied to out of 15 total applications. And one I applied to very last minute as kind of a impulse application. But maybe I'm not ready for the MFA yet. I don't know... guess we'll see what happens.

Bucknell [In reply to] Can't Post

Accepted by phone yesterday to Bucknell University's MA program (creative emphasis) with a stipend, but had to turn it down because of the Fulbright (the Bucknell administration has a no-deferral policy). So someone else will be getting a happy phone call from a very nice Michael Drexler.

Queens [In reply to] Can't Post

Accepted via e-mail to Queens University of Charlotte for fiction. Anyone in that program right now...or know someone who is? Funding looks minimal to non-existent, which could be a problem for me.

Accepted at University of Baltimore via email for poetry! This is crazy-- two acceptances in less than 24 hours after 6 straight rejections! No word on funding... and I don't think they typically have a lot, but I'll just be happy anyways, for now. :)

I'm really curious about how things are going at uncg... has anyone heard? I got an email well over a week ago asking if I had any questions about the program (I did) and then never heard anything back. :(

Memphis [In reply to] Can't Post

I got a letter yesterday from University of Memphis. I'm really interested in the program and I visited over the summer. They're higher up on my list of schools I'd really like to go to. However, I would only get a TAship and funding AFTER my first year, so I can't afford it. It sucks, but I'm actually okay with it.

Fiction, by the way.

Re: [biffturdlington] I'M IN! [In reply to] Can't Post

biff,

i received an acceptance letter from LSU last week. i'm not certain about the size of the envelope, as i put down my parents' address on the application (don't have a permanent residence, at the moment), but i can tell you that the letter didn't mention how many applied and that the 16,500 is in addition to the tuition/fees waver.

hope that helps.

Purdue [In reply to] Can't Post

I got my acceptance from Purdue (in for poetry) Monday evening by email, and Donald Platt called me up as well (really nice guy). It seems like a great program, almost like it was tailor-made for me. They stress a 'democratic' approach, a horizontal rather than top down power structure (in your face Weber). Every student gets the same TAship with a $13,000 stipend. This has shot Purdue to the top of my list overnight, though I still have two schools to hear back from.
