I'm feeling a little honored to be the first one to revive this thread. I was "not admitted" to UCF today. Bummer. :(

Damn, sorry to hear that kbritten. But you have plenty more schools to hear from! I'm sure many of us will be posting our own "not admitted" updates soon.

Btw, are you "kaybay" on the other board?

rejected [In reply to] Can't Post

A polite email was waiting for me this morning letting me know that I did not get into Madison for Fiction. 600 applicants for for 6 spots: those are some odds.

Just got rejected from Austin. I know it's a tough program to get into, but being rejected still sucks. :(

EmilyX2! The wait list is where it's at, so know hope re: your Syracuse sitch! I know a brilliant writer who got into her MFA (a top program) off the wait list. In AUGUST! And then got into her PhD (another top program) in May off the waitlist. I, personally, got into the best undergrad experience possible (in my opinion) off the wait list. Wait lists are your frieeeeend.

I will now enjoy another gin and tonic.

Re: rejected [In reply to] Can't Post

Welp, I got my first official rejection of the application season (with three other assumed rejections toying with me). The University of Kansas rejected my application in CNF via an email so impersonal that the actual email was just a link to the form rejection letter.

Reaper,

I thought the Kansas email seemed particularly impersonal, too.

That stationary IS pretty swanky. Maybe I should take my Wyoming letter down to the pawn shop and make myself a little extra scratch.

I got my rejection from Wyoming yesterday on my birthday and I SURVIVED. I was expecting it, at least.

I haven't received anything from Kansas yet though, and now I'm very antsy! It could be completely neutral or it could be good. My condolences to those already rejected.

Any other Kansas applicants who have heard nothing?

Got my rejection letter from Iowa's NWP this morning. They said they only had 12 spots for 150+ applications. I'm not heartbroken, but a bit unsettled. Still waiting on two other schools.

I got the same form rejection letter from Iowa's NWP, greenpenquills. I echo the sentiments of a poster at the MFA Blog who said that Iowa should have used better paper.

Well, I feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one in the online MFA applicant world to get a rejection letter from NWP. I stopped reading the MFA blog for the most part because it was making me more anxious, so all I knew was that a few people got accepted, and I hadn't yet read about any rejections.

Re: [ponyexpress] UT AUSTIN [In reply to] Can't Post

I emailed Alabama to get closure and was in fact "not admitted." I wouldn't recommend anyone emailing them, since it looks like the "assumed rejection" is most likely an actual one. But, just thought I would share that information with everyone. I really wanted Alabama :( it's so close to family and friends. But alas! It was not meant to be. So far here is a list of my assumed/actual rejections:

Central Florida
Iowa
Alabama
Syracuse
Cornell
Vanderbilt.

I got a few more schools left, but looks like I'll be roundly rejected and will need to do this again next year. Woe is I...

Kbritten - I think you're also Kaybay on the MFA blog, and I have to say that I've been following your posts and enjoying them. But perhaps most of all, you trumped up the Florida program so much that I applied for fiction. Did you? I just wanted to say - Don't lose hope yet! Where else did you apply?

Re: [K. Peaquah] UT AUSTIN [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, I'm Kay Bay too :) I love Florida's program, and honestly I would really only pick Notre Dame or Alabama (whomp whomp whooooomp) over Florida. I applied to the schools above, as well as Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, McNeese State, and UNCG.

I know this is faulty logic, but I just can't imagine getting accepted at any of those schools given that I haven't even been waitlisted anywhere else. In fact, I haven't even received an email from any of them. I know in my heart that I'll go 0-11, but I learned a lot. Next year, I'm going to put more "mid-tier" funded programs on my list and probably nix the insanely competitive programs like Cornell, Vandy, and Iowa. Even with a quality, polished sample, it seems nearly impossible to get into those schools.

I'm going to take a couple lit courses in the summer, hopefully find a creative writing course as well, so that I have better recommenders (my recommenders were all colleagues. I didn't want to ask old professors, most aren't even at Auburn anymore!). I'm going to spend more time on my SOP (I put ALL of my energy into my sample). I'm going to retake the GRE, too. I don't think I'm getting rejected because of my GRE scores/SOP/recommendations, I'm sure it's my sample, but I'm going to try to make myself the most competitive applicant that I can.

I'm also considering Seth's service, if not for the manuscript review, at least for the "list" service. I think my list was off this year, and I'd like help finding the best "fit."

I'm a little bummed, but it's all good :)
