Re: [AnnaJ] Michener [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey Anna- Audreyhurston asked a few questions that people responded to. Here's one thread where that happened. I think they are on the "I'm in" thread and the "Waiting Game" thread.

Re: [Kurt] Michener [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, Kurt. Too bad about MCW. I have not been rejected yet (either) and am therefore wondering what you mean by the only reason you had not been rejected for so long was that the MCW had not received the electronic file from the grad school. Do you mean your file had not been read yet? Sorry & Thanks.

Re: [lavventura] Michener [In reply to] Can't Post

I emailed MCW Monday asking where they were in their admissions process, mentioning specifically that my status page said that my materials were still being reviewed. One of their staff responded to say that b/c of a record number of applications, they had not received all of their 'electronic files' from the central grad admissions office, mine being one of the files they were waiting on.

So I wrote back, OK, in theory my manuscript may have been read and rejected, but my online status would not reflect this b/c you don't yet have my electronic file. And they said this was correct.

It goes without saying that if you haven't been rejected, it may be because you're still being considered for a spot. In my case, I suspected that my pending status was pure dumb luck, and of course, it was.

Hope this helps.

Rejected by IWW, via snail mail. I'm all the way in Oregon, so those letters are making their way pretty quickly.

Best of Luck all!

Re: Persona [In reply to] Can't Post

I really don't want to beat a dead horse but...

(always a "but"...)

I don't know why I've been a target of so much enmity when:

1. I've never attacked anyone on this forum...EVER;
2. I was merely playing along in a game that OTHERS invented;
3. I'm just like the rest of you blokes, no better no worse; and
4. I've seen worse behavior on this forum by other posters who were never chastised/reprimanded/vilified by the community.

*shaking head*

Hell, I even said "I'm a nobody" in a thread a long time ago and yet, people kept saying, "Raysen is Anthony Michael Hall" or "He's David Faustino" or "He's Macauley Culkin." Granted, these guys are "nobody" (you'll agree). Yep. But still...

Perhaps I should not have prolonged this "game" for as long as I did, but hey, we were all just killing time and sharing our common angst in this little community of ours. What's the harm? Why take it so bitterly? I mean, so what if I were Ralph Macchio or Corey Haim? So what?

Anyway, accept my apologies.

I hate to beat a dead horse too, but since you asked (after ignoring all previous explanations)

IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE TAUNTING DESPERATE PEOPLE WITH "MYSTERY TOP TEN" ACCEPTANCES. You sadist.

Oh. Ouch.

You're right. I should not have done that. My mistake. I lost me head.

But it was not "taunt." It was just excitement getting the better of me.

Re: [Raysen] Persona [In reply to] Can't Post

Look, honestly, Raysen? I have no problem with you in general. In fact, I quite liked you earlier in the season. But I have a hard time understanding your need to keep your acceptances secret. It's a fact that no program is going to punish you in any way for revealing your acceptance. Most programs are either oblivious or have come to grips with it by now. As people were saying earlier, when they wanted privacy, they kept info to themselves. You did not do so. And now curiosity is ravaging several of a us to such a degree that we're now angry at our seducer. To mix metaphors rather confusingly.

Please, Raysen. On behalf of all of the frustrated posters. Please, out with it.

Oh man, I've been trying so hard to resist getting involved in this. But I can't help myself anymore. Maybe it's because I just got off of work and I only got five hours sleep last night.

Raysen, I think that was the part where you were supposed to finally tell us where exactly you got in. Then we (or at least some of those of us who have been irked at one point or another by this long-running e-charade) accept your apology as genuine, and all is forgiven.

Otherwise, I think you kind of have two choices: Stop talking about acceptances if you're not going to divulge what they are/stop boasting about big-deal mystery admissions...OR just deal with the fact that some people are going to find your posts obnoxious.

Just my humble opinion. And I'll try to go back to biting my tongue now.

Bullcrap. That's pure and utter bullcrap.

Just because Raysen's news is not useful to you, germericanqt, does not make it inflammatory or insensitive.

Oh my gosh, Raysen got into the program I was hoping to go to and now I know that I didn't get in because I haven't gotten a call. Oh no! Woe is meeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Get off of it.

If anything, Raysen's discretion is a breath of fresh air.

Hi IrisAnn, someone on TSE today said they emailed Syracuse, and apparently poetry notifications were mailed out on Monday. (I guess there's no word if the same is true for fiction.)

Good luck!

It really wasn't discretion, but my fear that the MFA faculty will figure out Raysen=Timmy McDougal (fake name, for the sake of argument). And now that my name is "Mudd" (among other names, particularly the more descriptive ones) and having been raked over the coals for my behavior, I can't bear to have my identity revealed. Oh, the shame! The shame!

Someone jokingly suggested earlier that this discussion be moved to a Raysen thread. That's sounding more and more like a good idea. I'm not necessarily suggesting that someone actually create such a thread, but could we please move this discussion elsewhere? I'm sure the moderator will be pleased, as this is most certainly off-topic.

Thanks.

Got my Iowa rejection today in the mail. Don't know if anyone shared the stats, but for fiction, it was 800+ applications for 25 slots.

Re: [moomoocow42] Michener [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't know if any of you are superstitious, but I myself deny it to others even though my actions say otherwise. Anyway, when I prepared my applications, I always got this feeling that I won't get into certain schools -- not because they were better than me or my credentials weren't good enough or anything like that. It's like lusting after a cheerleader in high school. No matter how much you pursued her, for some ungodly reason, there was NO chance Becky Lee Meriweather was going to go out with me. I felt that way with Texas and Michigan. When I was informed of my rejections by those two programs, it wasn't a surprise. It just wasn't meant to be. I have zero connection to Texas. I don't even think about the State of Texas. It doesn't exist to me. And so, when I prepared the MFA, I thought to myself, I don't know why I bother.

It's just a gut thing...

Irvine Notices and the Same People Being accepted [In reply to] Can't Post

I believe the TSE indicated that Irvine communicates in the 2nd week of March. So we can maintain hope until then.

As for the question about the same people being accepted repeatedly: Those who have been accepted by four or more schools (and I don't know how many of those exist in fiction) can probably speak better to this but I will say that unlike the four schools that have not accepted me and the three others that I suspect do not want me, the professors at the two schools that accepted/showed strong interest in me have written work that themeatically or stylistically made me think that they would really appreciate my work because of my themes or the way I take chances in my writing. None of the professors at any of the schools to which I applied write in the style of the stories I submitted but some of the professors at the schools interested in me are prioritizing an aspect of writing that I focus on in my work. If my assessment is relevant then what we may be seeing is trends of connection and applicants carefully choosing schools whose professors work indicate an hospitable environment to their work.

I found out on the 17th but that was the very unofficial notice. The graduate school still has yet to send the letter so I DO hope that you get one. There are definitely more than one.
