Re: [motet] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

Greetings!

I am really a "noob" as my son would say, so I've never done anything like this before. I just wanted to say hello to the writing community. I am working on my Master of Fine Arts at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, and will be graduating this Fall.

I could use some help with the basics, such as how to post in the right places, how to reply to groups and individuals, and anything else useful I might need to know. Is there a place with the basic instructions on this website?

Thanks for this forum, and I look forward to connecting with all of you!

Welcome, whitetree.

Just look around on each page. The links are pretty well labeled for "reply" and all that. In general, we reply to the whole thread, rather than to individuals. You can use a name if you want to specify to whom you're replying, or you can quote in replying, or you can go back to the main menu and send a private message if you prefer.

Re: [motet] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

A greeting from Seattle where it remains, this week, in the middlefifties, though it is almost July! Thus, for this SpeakEasy forum, I am calling myself RainWriter. I am a writer of literary fiction with several stories in the literary journals, and a lovely writing award from Carolina Quarterly in 2003. But I am here, browsing this site, to discover what a selfpublished author might do with two beautiful works.

I have two semiautobiographical novels up on lulu.com regarding a Dutch immigrant childhood, but realize it will take forever to learn to market and promote them myself. I am curious about the selling of subsidiary rights for these kinds of works... Foreign rights, film rights, hardcover reprint rights. Tell me your stories if you have experience there! Cheers. Good words to you.=)

In many ways it remains in the middle Fifties here in Tennessee, too, although that's a political judgement, not weather.

I may have switched to Markup post style. I think I just went to the Edit Profile section and just put them in. I know nothing about html.

Oh, thanks! I think it worked!!

I just went to Edit Speakeasy Profile and put my addresses in with the markup tags. Found the markup tips in the Basic Editor here, in case anyone else is stuck on this!

Ta daa!! I didn't know about post markup before.=)

Well, there's this one. It's full of advice and information and leads to other web sites.

Perhaps you could be more specific about your needs.

And welcome!

Re: [motet] Introduce Yourself! [In reply to] Can't Post

HI! My name is Sandy and I am from North of Boston.
I am 50 years old with a 30 year career as an engineer. Writing is my first love and as part of my midlife crisis I re-enrolled in school. I attend SNHU as a creative writing major. I have about a year to go and fully intend to start applying to LRMFA programs. I am a fiction writer - women's lit (not be confused with Chick lit).
I have been writing for years and am just now stepping out of the closet. Any advice is much appreciated.
I have too many questions to ask, but for starters: Good writing groups local or online? Advice for submissions to MFA programs? Contests?

Sally, welcome. And you'll find answers, or at least the right place to ask, for those questions deeper into the Speakeasy.
