hello everyone,
I guess I have tried to write for about as long as I could write-no, that is not an attempt at profundity-some detours along the way such as being dyslexic probably inspired me to try harder. Before computer days,yes there was indeed such a time, every few years I would take the assembled typed/handwritten pages and sometimes tear them up but most often burn them. Not as an attempt for the words to rise as prayers on the smoke, no, I either didn't like what I had written or just didn't want it anymore. Then with computers, I signed up for d-x, the online journal, and all was well, I could write, get feedback--mostly good, rarely threatening--- and I could always delete if I felt like it, and have what I wrote look good, if for no other reason for the layout of the pages it was written on. Then lo and behold, d-x decided to shut down--so now I have one file with five years of entries, one day at a time that could be deciphered. No thank you, if I haven't saved it somewhere else, then d-x deleted it for me. But writing has become more of a habit, mostly poetry, and I have some things published on P&W magazines. I am lucky enough to have been invited by Shirley Allard to become involved with WordCatalystMagazine, an excellent ezine, as a mostly monthly columnist, which means if I can get an acceptable column written in time for the publication date. This is proving to be interesting because I started out trying to write short prose and it always managed to morph into freestyle poetry. I guess a column can be be poetry, we'll see. If I didn't have a regular income (so far), I guess I could qualify to be a starving poet, having in the last 4-5 years won a grand total on $100 in a poetry contest at a community college--that prize coming as a gift certificate from Staples. I have had some nice e-mail conversations with editors of magazines after rejects--all have been friendly---well I guess that friendly has been a sliding scale of friendly. The hardest one came from an individual who said in so many words--and this was a prose submission---that he liked the first paragraph and it went downhill from there--that he didn't like parts of the work because they did this. that, and the other----well, this, that, and the other was what I intended for it to do. Life goes on. Take care.-will-
