R D Lite, thanks. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Did you have anyone from India before in the program - if you know of? are they open to international candidates? I am wondering.

Oregon definitely values international perspectives (which isn't to say they devalue other perspectives--they don't, and most people here aren't writing from a specific international perspective). We do have some international students in the program now, though none from India. I couldn't speak about previous students.

RD lite,

any idea of the number of fiction applications this year? i think the number reported for 2009 was 366, and following the trend at every other MFA program, I can only imagine the number has gone up drastically. thanks.

Thanks RD.

I wrote to some of my program directors today and they told me they are getting enormous numbers this year. Florida was expecting 230 but have 400, Wisconsin (i didnt get in!) took 6 out of 600 - a number much ahead of the expected number which was 300.

I don't know the exact number of fiction applications, but it was significantly increased from last year.

Hi R D Lite,
I've applied to the MFA program (Fiction) for Fall 2010. I've heard elsewhere that fiction decisions are made. If I haven't received a call, do I assume a rejection? In general, is there something specific that faculty members look for?
I really wanted to work with Ehud Havazelet, that's why I'd applied to Oregon.

if your writing sample makes it through the cut, the next thing oregon looks at is your SOP. they put a lot of weight on the statement of purpose. laurie lynn was explaining this on the MFA blog and driftless house a few days ago.

check out their website. oregon, by far, has the most detailed outline of what they want you to address in the statement.

I live in India, not based abroad. I haven't received any calls as well. I am assuming its a rejection - it is too late now to keep hoping.

Oh well. I am being over-positive in still waiting I guess! It would be great to touchbase with writers in India, given that I will apply again if I don't make it anywhere. I will not give up :)

hey all,

so i'm looking at oregon's website and, with their new online system, it's saying you should "self-upload" transcripts and GRE scores, and then send hard copies to the school itself. am i to just take a screencap of my online GRE score and scan in my transcripts then, or something? it's the only school that's like this and it's confusing.
