Re: [orangegirl] UT Michener Has Made Decisions [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Orangegirl (not from Orange County, remember? ha!),

Sorry to hear about the rejection at UT, but hey, you do have an acceptance !! That's infinitely better than most of us !! Are you waiting to hear from other places, too?

I applied to Michener, too, (fiction) but I'm either more stupid than usual, or there's nothing regarding acceptances or rejections on my page. Where should it be? It just lists my personal info, and the list of materials. Any clue?

Thanks!

Hey gussy. I think it's been reported that the status will show under the list of materials.

I haven't seen anything on mine yet either, so I can't tell you for sure.

Thanks, applepicker! Yeah, I've been inspecting my UT webpage with a magnifying glass, but nowhere does it say "Pending", "Accepted" or "Rejected." So now at least I know where to look. Anyway, this uncertainty sucks. Or perhaps that means we should be hopeful. I wonder whether those who have been notified already are fiction or poetry applicants. I've heard poetry decisions tend to come first.

I may have this wrong, but I think sovietsleepover said that the Michener folks would be calling their picks for poetry sometime next week.

So, as far as I know, no one's heard "Yes: you!" yet! But some will probably be hearing it soon.

[Edited because I spelled the username incorrectly.]

Re: [lavashlavash] UT Michener Has Made Decisions [In reply to] Can't Post

i'm actually one of the acceptances from the livejournal community. michigan acceptance in poetry came today around 12:30 via email. just when i had decided last night to completely lose all hope. but clearly it is way too early to do that.
needless to say i am wicked happy right now. though it really has yet to sink in. they offered to fly me out for their admitted students weekend at the end of march. when i called my mother to let her know about getting in and told her that, she said "when are WE going? i'd LOVE to go to michigan!" hahah so yeah, wait and see, i'll totally be the one lugging my mother to workshops ;)

Re: [gussy] UT Michener Has Made Decisions [In reply to] Can't Post

on mine it showed up as three sentences right above the materials checklist box: "your application has been given careful consideration by the committee on graduate studies. on the basis of their recommendation, your application has been denied. if you have questions, please write directly to the committee in your major department."

i didn't see it at first, was looking for a clear-cut spot more like uva's. sort of wish they'd bold it or something-- seems kinda mean to make me go hunting for a denial.

ah, well. surprisingly depressed by this. must buck up-- i do indeed have more apps hovering out there in the ether, and that probably means more rejections, some for schools i'd rather go to than michener. tgif and all that... at least there's music and booze to be had on such a night.

That is fantastic! I am so glad you have a writing home now!
I'm waiting for Warren Wilson myself.
Davis is one of the top...my knowledge of California is sketchy, I always visit the SF area... where is ist in relation to Sacramento?
Again, rest on your laurels you deserve it.
I am writing to you from a cruise ship in Panama: just accessed my e-mail and sawyour good news!
Ciao!

Thanks. I think I'm most likely to take Cornell's offer. I think the program is probably the best fit for me, and the elephant in the room is the amazing financial package at Cornell: two funded years plus an additional two years of teaching / lecturing. Four years to write.
Michigan's financial package is decent, the program is quite good, and I've heard really wonderful things about the faculty, which is why I applied.
I also applied to Iowa and Wash U in St. Louis, but I have not heard from either program. Apparantly they are accepting people already (according to gossip here), so I guess I didn't get in at either.

That's great, yay Cornell. Come to visit in May when it's the most beautiful here. All the trails through the gorges are closed for the winter and probably won't open until everything is thawed, since it's dangerous when the ice is still melting.

Wow, HUGE congratulations on your acceptances to two amazing programs! I agree with you about the funding issue--four years! That's so fantastic, HopperFu. This should be really great validation after your disappointing rejection last year. Those people should be feeling like fools for not hitching their wagon to your star--

Also, when I got home from work, my boyfriend was holding a message for me: the University of Cincinnati had called my mother, and then she called my boyfriend (I'm not the easiest person to get ahold of by telephone). Anyway, UC excepted me and offered me a teaching assistantship with tuition fellowship!

windiciti--davis is about a 90 minute drive (in traffic) from san francisco, a bit less from berkeley, and about 15 minutes west of sacramento. it's really quite easy to take the train from here to there, too.

i hope we hear something soon.
