Yeah, I've checked it about once a day. It's rather agonizing....

All I get from WolverineAccess is a fat lot of nothing. Has anyone ever received a rejection notice from Michigan via their web site? Just send me the letter already so I can stop moping about!

I haven't been on what you could call a vacation in probably 8 years, unless you count study abroad twice. England and Cuba.

I wish I could afford to actually take a vacation right now. Something about not worrying about the mail for a week that appeals to me.

Michigan's application status page hasn't moved EVER. Somebody on Speakeasy said that letters were to have been sent out last Friday, so they should be arriving Tuesday or Wednesday, no? Best of luck to all my fellow Wolverine-wannabes!

Yep, I called Michigan (yeah, yeah) at the beginning of last week and they said that letters should be out by Friday. But these are REJECTION letters, right? I mean, what are we waiting for, besides confirmation of the worst?

My mailbox [In reply to] Can't Post

Got the mail at 8am.

Nothing from Cornell.
Nothing from Michigan.
Nothing from Iowa.
Nothing from Brown.
Nothing from UMass.

And those are just the ones I expect to hear from soon.

It's going to be a loooong month.

what are we waiting for? The ever present hope that maybe, just maybe, they forgot to call us... and the letter will rectify that gross oversight.

also, waitlist baby. waitlist.

Hah. Indeed.

Also speaking of waitlists, have we heard about anybody being accepted to the University of Illinois Urbana? I was waitlisted there, and haven't heard about one actual acceptance. Hmm.

Re: [stellalovers] My mailbox [In reply to] Can't Post

Someone called me last Friday night around midnight with an unknown area code (347). Didn't leave a voicemail. Despite the fact that this is apparently a New York cell phone number, and I didn't apply to any schools in the metropolitan area, deep down I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a professor transplanted from New York and working at a west coast school really urgently wanted to accept me on a Friday night.

And if I'm wrong, well . . . strangers should know better than to call me this time of year, anyway.

Ah, to even hear of a waitlist - or rejection- instead of this nothingness.

I had a dream I get accepted into syracuse, and ONLY syracuse. I applied because I like the program, but old demons lurk there and that kind of scares me. So if course, in my dreams the old demon came out to terrorize me. If that dream does come true, I gotta get a good therapist (not in bottle form) down there.

I'm ready to move on though, already thinking of programs to apply to next year, working on a new story, etc. Of course, it's all of 13 pages right now, so gotta work on another one too.

*sigh*

Email Acceptance Etiquette [In reply to] Can't Post

How should you respond to an email acceptance? Should you email them back right away? Should you thank them? Should you wait until you make a final decision?

As my friends often remind me "I'm missing something socially," so any advice would help.

Also any advice on how to respond to a phone acceptance would also be appreciated. Probably not needed, but just in case...

Re: [jchilder42] Email Acceptance Etiquette [In reply to] Can't Post

Not sure how to react to an email notice. I'd probably email them back, asking if it were possible to ask some questions, etc. I don't think you should accept right away unless you KNOW that that's your place. I'm not advocating being coy, just smart. If some other school could potentially lure you away with a better offer, then it's not smart to take the first one that comes along.

As for phone calls - I just said "Thank you. It's an honor to be admitted. Do you have time to go over some questions I have?" and if so, great. If not, we set up a new time. Also, I ask for email addresses of former/current students I can talk with. No need to accept right then either.

Have had nightly acceptance dreams about Iowa, so much for my insistence that I'd love to get in anywhere, I'm obsessed with the Holy Grail. Also dreamed I got into Michener and dug Austin. After living in NYC for 8 years, the idea of a 785 sq. ft. one BR apt is like a dream!

Thanks for nuthin, Illinois. Way to get me all hyped up demanding my third rec letter on Jan. 15th and making it sound like you really really needed to have my application complete for a very good reason. If you hated my writing sample, why did you force me to have a heart attack?!

Did anyone else receive a call from UNCG to this effect: "Your application is with the readers, and we're considering admitting you, but our admissions process stretches into April"? They've been really good about answering questions personally, etc., but I still haven't heard anything definitive.

thanks, you know how it is-- just trying to figure out if I should've heard already.

I called them last friday on something unrelated and learned they had not yet read my app. They have all members of their committee read every app, wh. is why it takes so long. so even tho I know they probably have not read it yet this is making me really anxious and sad. OH, I hate this whole goddamn thing...! I've been waitlisted at one place and heard nada from the otros 10. Anybody know what I mean when I ref monkey torture??? ;)

Howdy folks. Just registered here to look for what it seems like everyone else is looking for, news on the MFA application status. I've read the last 5 or 6 or so pages, but decided it was in my best interest not to catch up on all 95 pages.

As is, my status is accepted at Emerson, rejected by Purdue. Haven't heard from Iowa or Johns Hopkins, and my hopes aren't really that high. All applications in fiction.
