Dude, you must chill. First of all, what you read on the Speakeasy, LJ communities, TheGradCafe, and even that MFA book-blog thingie does not represent the final word on what Iowa is up to. I'm sure Iowa has a system, and until you get your rejection letter in the mail, it's best to just relax (easier said that done, I know). Iowa has 50 spots to fill, 25 in poetry. Do you think they called all 25 accepted poets on last Friday? Do you think they only call a few people at a time? Do they call the minority applicants first? Do they try to make their full-tuition and support offers before dipping into the other tiers of financial aid? Did that guy who got into Iowa and Cornell decide to accept the offer from Ithaca? What about the chick whose husband said he would prefer divorce over moving to Iowa City? Do you think she's made up her mind yet? Here's something else to think about: Not everybody is addicted to MFA message boards (this is the sound of my personal shame, by the way). If you've seen one note from a member of these message boards regarding acceptance news, I'd say that's par for the course. It's not unreasonable to think that out of Iowa's numerous applicants, only a handful know about LJ and only one happens to have been accepted in poetry at the time of the last post. Could someone be fucking with you? Absolutely. Think about the hysterical hissy fits that would erupt on this board if someone were to post that they were accepted to the UC Irvine program. First of all, it's weeks before Irvine has traditionally notified people, and second of all, nobody on this board has ever gotten into Irvine. Now that the acceptance notification gossip has begun, I know how hard it is to stay calm. There's no Iowa area code showing up on my caller Id, and I'm freaking out about it, too. Still, you have to wait until you get your official notice. Seriously. Good luck, man.
