STRANGE! Mine didn't work, either.

I am watching Weeds and dealing with, I mean--ENJOYING--my children, also. :)

I hear you on the moving the ENTIRE family drama, too. Daycare, housing, employment...2 kids, a hubs, a big bullmastiff, let alone having time to enjoy the fact that we may actually get accepted! :) I feel ya.

Ditto, and FAFSA... I've never filed so early. Considering my Netflix options for later.

Jessaheath, see anything good on Netflix lately? I noticed Memento has just entered the Watch Instantly repertoire...

I spent last week watching Glee, which proves you don't need unexpected plots or a sense of true conflict to come away with an award-winning show. If I don't get in anywhere, I will deeply regret not entering screenwriting or music school.

@Zuleika
I have been revisiting some old favorites: The Princess Bride, Can't Hardly Wait, & The Big Lebowski. I heard The IT Crowd was worth checking out (British sitcom by producers of The Office) and that's on instant watch too. Good luck with your distractions!

Hmm, yes, I generally regard the "Watch It Again" category as a nuisance, but perhaps I will check out some old favorites again.

Btw, are you constantly getting bombarded with Kevin Bacon's 12 year-old face from Footloose?

The I.T. Crowd is absolutely brilliant. I've watched all three season, laughing all the way through. Definitely watch.

When will these schools realize that an email which begins with "thank you for your application" and follows with "we received a great number of applicants" is extremely traumatizing??

Thank you for your application to the Creative Writing MFA program in Fiction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We received a great number of applications to the program this year, and they are currently under the admission committee's careful review. You are no doubt anxious to have some word about your application status. We hope to convey this information to you and the other applicants in the very near future. In the meantime, we do ask for your patience.

Nevertheless, congrats on the acceptance, M Johnson! You're very lucky to have found out already!

(Edited to convey a greater sense of enthusiasm and to hide my jealousy.)

Zuleika, the only people who received that email from Wisconsin are people who have already been rejected by the first round of readers. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that.

Just kidding! That email freaked me out too.

Re: [ashleyke] Now for the waiting! [In reply to] Can't Post

Congrats, Ashley! It's a great feeling, isn't it? Not being responsible for your fate is a mixed blessing-- nothing to worry about, now that it's out of your hands... but then again, there's nothing to do now... it's out of your hands.

I'd suggest getting some fun reading in. Or branching out into not-your-genre for a little writing time.

I will be totally done in days.

What doesn't help is that I'm giving my writing samples a 30th pass, the samples I sent to my December deadline schools.

And I'm finding a lot of problems. Basic tense shifts and a few missing words.

I can't believe I sent this out.

After the last fake-out, I looked up all the area code of my schools and put it in my Google Doc file. Very practical, albeit slightly OCD.

Yeah, I did that too, hehe, but I still thought that maybe the person was calling from a phone with an area code other than where my programs are located. I'm grasping at straws at this point :0)

Ugh, I just thought they'd be calling from their offices... forgot all about the possibility of mobile technology.

MFA Blog [In reply to] Can't Post

The MFA Blog has veered quite off track and seems to have become a breeding ground for anxiety and resentment. Just wanted to say that I'm glad I have this forum to retreat to :-)

As am I. Although, I do appreciate both venues for their respective angles at this point in the game. Some days I need to read about how nuts everyone else is to put myself even more at ease. And then, of course, there's this one. Where it's just plain nice to see where people are getting in/out/and are polite. Period. :)

This is funny considering that a lot of the people on the MFA Blog are the SAME people here just with different handles. I guess that goes to show how nuts everyone is!
