Were these tenure track jobs? Tenure track jobs at cc's are getting pretty competitive and are going to folks w/ PhD's.
Assuming you have comp experience, apply for the full-time non-tenure track temporary composition jobs at large state universities that have to staff a ton of composition sections. Don't just apply to the jobs advertised on Highered or Chronicle, either--contact comp directors at large state universities. Only temporary comp jobs I could find are for adjunct spots, which I've applied to. But they won't let me know anything until August 1 for the Fall semester.
That's pretty common, actually. I was a full-time temporary comp instructor at a large state university, and wasn't hired until a month before the start of the semester. I've seen some full-time temporary positions on higheredjobs lately, though.
Be sure to contact comp directors at large state universities so that they have your CV on file once things really start to move in July and August. Also, scope out the comp sections at these schools to get an idea of how many slots they'll have to fill--the more slots, the better your chances.
