ooooh, duh *slaps forehead*. Oh well. Maybe next time, PhD programs. Maybe next time. I guess it works out, though. Now I can move myself up to Chicago and just work for a while...hopefully at a job that pays enough for me to afford Blackhawks season tickets. Woo!

Someone received a Binghamton acceptance via mail yesterday. Doesn't look like CW. I wonder if only acceptances were mailed.

Currently sitting in an airport after barely missing my flight to Iowa City too, too early this morning. Working on two hours of sleep. Sigh. BUT, I just found out that I'm in at Cincy off the waitlist. Crazy! In case anyone is still waiting at either Cincy or Tennessee—a fiction spot will be opening up—I just don't know where yet (perhaps both). Don't give up hope waitlisters.

Hey, Congrats! Feel free to PM me....re: Cincy. I won't be able to tell you much about the fiction faculty; I've not had a chance to work with anyone yet (and may not...still not sure). But I can tell you about the area, the program, etc.

So, I'm confused about Binghamton's notifications.

Someone on gradcafe reported receiving a snail mail acceptance on Wednesday, and before that, someone else reported contacting the graduate secretary on Monday and being told that letters had been mailed. I have not yet received a letter, and am not *that* far from NY. Additionally, an MA applicant reported his/her online status changing to "admitted" late Friday night.

I've had trouble getting *any* response from Binghamton. After submitting my application in December, I emailed the grad school twice about how to pay my application fee (I eventually figured it out) but never received an answer. And I emailed the English DGS on Tuesday about my status and haven't yet received a response. No postal letter either.

Is this program notorious for disorganized notifications and ignoring queries? Or is this an exception? I recognize that they're probably flooded with queries, as they have the latest due date and applicants probably have heard back from every other program and are getting antsy.

I have a friend who was accepted there (ended up going elsewhere) and they just received notification via email in late April. Never received an actual letter. So I'm guessing a long wait is par for the course.

So, after hearing nothing from Cincy, I finally contacted them and found out I'm waitlisted. Probably will come to nothing, but after feeling like I was out for this cycle, it's weird to feel like I might possibly have a chance.

On another note, I just wanted to let folks know that I would caution anyone who's thinking in the future of applying to ULL to probably steer clear. They accepted me, but for the critical dissertation, and waitlisted me for funding. I may be cynical, but I got the distinct feeling that they were fishing for anyone who'd attend and pay their own way.

Hi,

Any other mizzou waitlisters out there? I saw on the grad cafe that someone received a rejection off of the waitlist today. Any news anyone?

Also, for those of you that have offers...who has made a decision?

I'm off to AWP tomorrow but still no news about the houston or mizzou waitlist for me. boo

Hey Rambler, I applied to their MFA program, so I'm not sure if the information is necessarily relevant to you, but I called the other day to ask about my status and she said that the committee is "still deciding on wait lists and rejections." She said that she couldn't imagine sending out notifications later than Friday. I'm frustrated by this, of course, but I'm obviously willing to wait :)

What does "rejected off the waitlist" mean? They've filled the program and athe waitlist is destroyed?

Sewanee's (confrerence, not MFA) definitley said essentially "don't call us, we'll call you, and if you never hear anything, well, you never hear anything." So I still go out to the mailbox every day with some anxiety/anticipation.

I was notified that I was on the waitlist in March, and today I got a letter saying I was denied admission.

No idea if people were admitted from the waitlist or not, but a previous email stated they'd made all their offers and would let everyone know if folks had accepted them or rejected them by April 15.

Thanks for the heads up!

Was your friend admitted off of a wait list, or was it a first-round acceptance that late in the season? I'm wondering if the program is undercutting itself by waiting until after the 15 April decision deadline to let people know about being admitted (i.e. has it resigned itself to being a "second choice" program for those who haven't been accepted anywhere else?). Not that I seriously think that I might still be admitted, but in the hell-freezes-over chance that I am, I'm growing more concerned about the departmental environment that would result from the notification process.

My friend never received a formal letter...it was just an e-mail so it might have been a wait-list? This whole process is such a mystery.

And more at mystery at certain programs!

Gradcafe reports a Binghamton English MA rejection via email this morning. This seems entirely random! A postal acceptance for a PhD (not CW), a couple of web site acceptances for some MAs, and now an email rejection for an MA, while my email query never was answered with even a "we're not done yet."

Ah well, I've already begun looking at employment for the next year. MFA programs next time. Competition is too fierce at the PhD level without one, it seems.
